While waiting for Merrick to finish getting herself prepared for their evening out together, David occupied himself with reading over the fine print on the pair of tickets he had secured for their trip to the opera.  It had taken him nearly as much time to prepare himself.  He fussed over his appearance more than most men did.  A peacock of sorts, meticulous in his habits, so that not a hair nor a thread was out of place.

David glanced up when he heard her coming out of the other room.  His face went blank as he gazed at the woman.  A quiet sound left the Englishman before his grip on the tickets went inexplicably slack and there was a quick motion as he fumbled to catch them before they went sailing to the ground.  He stooped quickly to recover the scattered bits of paper, allowing himself a few moments to regather his composure.

“Ah.  How clumsy of me.  You look beautiful, Merrick.”

         “A lot of people.. but no one thought it was me.. but, I think the woman he was yelling at suspected me because she gave me a funny look. Like she was surprised and a little scared at the same time. --She told him she was having a baby and he got made and started yelling at her for it. He was so mean and I can tell she was scared and nervous and it made me angry.” And as she spoke these words, her brows were furrowed showing just how angry she was. Violet hates people that were cruel for no reason.

📷: the last four pictures you took and why you took them

1. The Christmas Tree, which I texted to Louis. No reply. I wanted him to come home. 

2. A selfie with my mother, when she stopped by for approx. 48 hours to visit. I always take one with her. It annoys her, but it annoys her less than if I force her to sit for a photo portrait with me. So we both compromise.  

3. A selfie with a fan, just outside the St. Louis Cathedral, after mass. We took one with her camera first--but she was very sweet, and her smile infectious, and I was sad. So I wanted one, too. 

4. A photo of Merrick as she prayed the rosary. She does not know that I took it. She looked very beautiful.

Hi! I love your blog, and I have a question for you! My favorite character is Louis, and I've heard that he features more prominently as a character in Merrick. I've heard good and bad about Merrick, but I've never read it myself. Is it worth a read? (I'm getting back into the VC after a long time away, and I only read a handful of the books.)

You might want to ask them both about the book for more detail, any Children of Darkness (that’s what VC Fandom ppl are calling oureselves now) can also feel free to reblog this and add comments. I didn’t want to steal antoineandthepiano’s description from their post, go check that out!

Basically, if you love Louis, this is definitely a novel with alot of him in it, doing alot of serious stuff. It will hit you right in the feels. You might need to take breaks while reading it. 

I don’t remember if it spoils any other major plot points from books that come before it, but I seem to recall it as being almost a standalone novel. It does spoil the fact that certain characters in the novel were not vampires in previous novels.
