#FlashbackFriday. It was easy to be inspired and attached to the authentic art scene growing up in NYC. You could find so many random things on Manhattan’s Canal Street and Pearl Paint was one place where I spent a lot of times during my childhood - especially during my art school years (@prattinstitute ‘96-‘00). Every Fall semester, along with friends/classmates and our class ‘art supply lists’, we would head out to Pearl Paint to purchase the needed supplies. Enduring long checkout lines it was very common to run into other students from the rival, NYC-based art schools: Parsons, SVA, FIT and Cooper Union. An underlying, uncomfortable feeling of talking to somebody who would most likely be a competitor in your industry after graduation made it the closest thing to having an aggressive and bitter, sports rivalry. RIP Pearl Paint, and even Canal Jean Company. #FBF #flashbackfriday #ForgottenNY #NYC #NativeNewYorker #OldSchool #Retro #PearlPaint #CanalStreet #Chinatown #EarlyDays #Childhood (at Canal Street) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5vOeAVBcOF/?igshid=27tosa79hdoi
