Dark Rooms featuring St. Vincent - Like Battling The Hydra
hi! what does shande fur die goyim mean?
The direct translation is something like “embarrassment before/in front of the gentiles” in Yiddish. It’s used when a Jewish person does something publicly so that non-Jews can see, often confirming an antisemitic stereotype/trope, which makes the entire Jewish community look bad. It’s one thing to do something shameful within one’s community, it’s another when one does something shameful so outsiders see so that it will reflect poorly on your community. Think Bernie Madoff.

OMG I HAVEN’T LOGGED IN IN 2 MONTHS AND MISSED THIS MESSAGE I AM SO SORRY PLEASE FORGIVE ME I LOVE YOU! D-:
4. What is your zodiac sign?
I’m a perfect Scorpio :-)
15. Favorite song?
Aw, come on. You know that’s a terrible question to ask a music junkie like myself. I could never pick just one favorite, but one of my favorite songs is “The Unwinding Cable Car” by Anberlin.
68. Favorite school subject?
My favorite subject was English because I have always loved reading and writing.
87. Do you keep a journal?
Absolutely, I’ve been keeping regular journals since 3rd grade. Sometimes I slack off and forget to write for weeks or months, but I do try to write an entry 1-2 times a week.
for the Concert Asks: 8, 14, 3, 15
Hellooo!
3. Which artist/band have you seen the most live?
I think Hawk Nelson. Saw them 3 times although I have not seen them since 2008 or 2009.
8. The farthest you’ve traveled to go to a concert?
A trip that should have been 3 ½ hours by car wound up being 8+ hours by train because my parents wouldn’t let me drive and all my trains were delayed, of course. So, I guess 8+ hours to see Anberlin.
14. Answered here
15. Worst concert you’ve been to? Run Kid Run. The band played well but they had no stage presence or crowd interaction and the whole show suffered as a result. I’ve never seen so many people sit down and/or lose enthusiasm during a show.
☾☆✿♡♦☯ ♒ kalinda sharma
☾ - sleep headcanon
When Kalinda’s at home for the night, she’s very particular about her bed. She sleeps better when everything’s in order and the same as always.
☆ - happy headcanon
Kalinda sometimes has difficulty recognizing when she’s happy. Happiness catches her off-guard and throws her off.
✿ - Sex headcanon
Sex and romance aren’t often associated for Kalinda. It’s the rare person she’s attracted to both sexually and romantically.
♡ - romantic headcanon
See above. Also, she dated and experimented (maybe that’s more in the sex headcanon section?) in high school and as a young adult, then fell hard for Nick. It seemed romantic at the time.
♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon
Kalinda’s favorite hobby as a child was playing investigator. She’d always know what was going on with everyone, and occasionally she’d chime in with a fact-check or “evidence” to everyone’s surprise (and, often, annoyance). She’d amuse herself by noting something suspicious (”suspicious”) and finding clues to solve the “mystery.” She collects bits of trivia. She used to carry around a notebook just for jotting down random facts. She likes crossword puzzles, of all things, because they’re a great way of putting her knowledge to use and making sure she’s continually adding to her supply of facts. She has no formal training as an investigator-- she’s self-taught and her great instincts and strategic thinking land her jobs.
☯ - likes/dislikes headcanon
Aaah, this question. I have no idea. Too broad!
♒ - cooking/food headcanon
Kalinda is a surprisingly good, innovative cook. She doesn’t spend her time cooking often, often sticking to the basics, but sometimes she’ll make obscure and challenging recipes.
Also, cooking was a very symbolic activity when Kalinda was with Nick. This is hinted at in 4x03 (”I want one of your omelettes” “I’m the husband and you’re the wife”) and I’ve always thought that exchange, before it devolves into utter nonsense, was one of the moments where Kalinda/Nick seemed like an interesting dynamic to explore. Nick was traditional-- husband works, wife cooks. So Kalinda cooked. For him. She knew what to make to please him, and he was demanding. He’d call home and insist she make some extravagant meal for dinner and that it be delicious, and she’d comply.
