Alright, let’s get started on this new project! So here’s how I’m gonna do it: my first post every day until we’re done will be a recap of last post and the next step.

Last post, I explained the project a little and sent out the poll, after which an overwhelming majority was excited for this project!

Step 1: The Common Ancestor

The base of FFF is to make a realistic evolution of another animal. So, we need a starting point. We could do something simple like a grey wolf, or something more exotic like a pistol shrimp for the base! It’s all up to you though- post your ideas in the replies, and I’ll choose one as our base!

Alright! Last time we decided that our species adapted by using less energy and by migrating to a new environment through a poll. An interesting mix, to say the least. Time to follow it up!

Step 5: Methods

So, this part is simple: how does the animal use less energy now? For migration it’s pretty simple- moves where the food does in winter- but how does it expend less energy? Sounds like it’s time for a poll!

Time for the summery of our project in my classic DND style.

Evolving from the common kestrel, the Mountain Kestrel was forced to evolve when their environment was disturbed by a wildfire, creating food scarcity and lack of shelter. To adapt, they were forced to migrate into the mountains.

Due to treacherous terrain and bigger prey, they needed to conserve as much energy as they could- so, they evolved from solitary hunters to pack hunters. A Kestrel hunting flock can contain upwards of a dozen individuals.

However, mountains get cold and good gets scarce in winter. So, they migrate during the colder seasons into forested areas- they travel with the food.

Alright, looks like our species is having a good time evolving! Last time, we decided it would stay in evolve to use less energy and migrate. So, the poll last time was how does it use less energy? It was a clear winner in it becoming a pack hunter.

Step 6: Migration

Let’s elaborate on the migration. Does it migrate for the summer? Did it migrate to relocate to a new area? I think we need to go deeper into the migration.

Yesterday, I gave you a poll on how our new species reacted to the wildfire. In turn, it created food scarcity and lack of shelter/homes. We decided it would persevere in its home despite this, and adapt to the new environment- quite poetic for many Alterhumans, I must say. Truly, a species made by us.

Step 4: Adaptations

I see three potential was it could adapt: a change in diet, adapting to use less energy, or a mix of migration and hibernation. Here’s the poll!

Alright! Time for the next step!

Last time, we decided that our animal would evolve from the Kestrel, and the environmental change that forces it would be a natural disaster. I’m adding on that it was a wildfire. This would in turn cause food scarcity and a lack of shelter for the animal. So; let’s look at step 3.

Step 3: Reaction

This step asks a simple question: how did the animal react to the change? In nature, we see two possible reactions. One, the animal adapts to its new environment, or two, the animal moves and adapts to its new one. So, poll time!

Alrighty! Time for step 2 of the FFF method!

Last post, we decided on what our species evolved from- Falco Tinnunculus, or the kestrel. They are closely related to what we would generally consider falcons, and eat small mammals, lizards and insects. They tend to hunt by flying about 10-20 meters over open plain, and diving on their prey- a great tactic considering the areas they live in for most of the year.

The second step is to figure out what changed. So, for this part I’m posting a poll. What do you want to have changed and forced our creature to evolve from the conmen kestrel?
