My photography got accepted into the format festival!!!
“A festival is about taking risks,” says Louise Clements, founder and director of Format International Photography Festival, which returns this year to celebrate its ninth edition. “Festivals can come and go, but to sustain something for so many years, you have to work out how to make it valuable fo
Format Festival – the low down – British Journal of Photography
This year’s edition of the biennial photography festival Format foregrounds work that describes the world around us at a specific moment in history. Habitat is a broad and yet provocative theme, one that is designed to interrogate not only our physical surroundings such as land, sea, plants, other humans and wildlife, but a range of less tangible and often more visually evasive things – the digital and political worlds, for example, or mass migration – which nevertheless have considerable repercussions on our lives.

Here is a video from ‘The Iceberg’ exhibition at Quad for the Format Festival. This is me walking around the space holding up the UV light to the hidden images.
The Iceberg - Giorgio di Noto
My favourite exhibit from the Format Festival was called ‘The Iceberg’ by Giorgio di Noto where his images were only seen when an ultra violet light was held in front of them. These were provided at the exhibition so that you as the viewer could freely walk around the space, finding images as you go along. I found his concept very interesting as his images are always present yet sometimes unseen to the human eye, very similar to evidence today. The interactive side of his exhibition definitely stood out from the other as it was memorable and different. It was not necessarily about the pictures it was about how you see them.
Format Photography Festival
I recently visited the Format Photography festival in Derby where a series of exhibitions were placed around the city all linking back to the theme of ‘evidence’. I did not get chance to see every exhibition but the ones I did manage to see were very interesting as every photographer had a different interpretation of the theme. The type of gallery space varied throughout the city which was interesting as it showed many ways of displaying work. In a separate post I am going to talk about the exhibitions I saw.
Im pleased to have been able to show some of my work in this over the weekend. My prints are peeking out a bit in the third photo down, the first one is just a bit left of centre, below the print reading "MILK", and the second is in the top right corner. Take a look !!! http://miniclick.co.uk/2015/02/03/event-format-and-the-heart-grows-fonder-sat-14th-sun-15th-march-2015/
