“Design is a global industry. With fairs and events now taking place each year in almost every capital city in the world and with huge companies constantly trying to convince us to buy more, it’s easy to feel that in its race to the international marketplace, design has lost its connection to place.
But projects like Southern Sweden Creatives are proving otherwise. They’re demonstrating that design has a soft power economically, but also – perhaps more importantly – when it comes to creating community and identity. With its ventures in Milan, London, and this month’s Dutch Design Week, SSC has shown that Swedish design is adaptable and innovative, and that its creators share a common outlook that makes their work unique. It is not just proving this to the world, but to the designers themselves. By bringing together a group of designers working in different fields – fashion, jewellery, glassware and more – SSC has identified a new and innovative creative centre in Skåne.”
