It's hard to explain to someone who has never raced how much you put your ass on the line every time you hit the grid. In order to be a champion you have to go even further and be willing to lay it ALL on the line. Mike Lipscomb @lordofthestorm is a 2 time and defending national champion. He could sit back a race here and there and pile up points and still be number 1 at the end of the season but pushing it when he doesn't have too, trying to squeeze everything he can out of himself and his machine to me makes him a true champion and gladiator. It's why we race really. To measure, test and push ourselves against our own self imposed limitations.
