Beau and Jay Taplin’s favourite For Our Hero lyrics (from Fist2Face Farewell)
A thankyou to FOH
The first time I ever saw and met For Our Hero minus one was in 2012 at the Strange Days concert. Now, nearly two years later, I remember every single detail that my 13 year-old self experienced that night. I even got to watch the excitement on all of their faces as they put their hands in and yell “WILDCATS” before the show. That night, I couldn’t contain my excitement because I was finally getting the chance to see my favourite band live. Words failed me because they were even more incredible live than I ever imagined. There is no wonder why most of the bands in the local scene look up too and see FOH as an inspiration because they really are. And to top it all off, they were the loveliest and most down to earth people I have ever met and to this day, they still are. The boys of For Our Hero have hearts of gold and it’s so clear as you watch the extents each one of them go too for us as fans. To have them in my life is a blessing and I’m so grateful for each one of their existences.
A few months later, I got the chance to see For Our Hero again at Bring on the Summer. I remember my friends and I arrived at the venue during Forever Ends Here’s set and the first thing I noticed was FOH weren’t there. I think it was during A Sleepless Melody where I went to see if they had arrived yet and I saw Beau and I ran the other way. Clearly my 13 year-old fangirl is still alive and dwelling but hey, after countless attempts, my friends and I finally worked up the courage to talk to him and ask him for a photo. More importantly, I finally got to thank him for everything, from the beautiful words he writes to himself as a person.
I wish I knew last year that Young Wolves would be the final time I would get to see For Our Hero play. But I guess if I knew back then, I wouldn’t have let them go (oops?). The amount of times I have wanted to go back and relive Young Wolves has been insane because it was such an amazing experience. Everything about that day was perfect. A certain Beau even told me that I look older but “not in an old lady way” and I also fell to the floor infront of Geoffrey. Prior to the gig, I remember running down the line, asking people to write notes in the scrapbook I had made for them. Some of the little notes people had made in that made me insanely happy as I read the appreciation and support FOH had. Seeing the support and love others showed proved to me that I wasn’t alone in loving and appreciating this band.
I think what some don’t understand is the happiness you feel when you see your favourite band infront of you as they perform. Even though they are up there, playing every song with such emotion, you feel a certain connection. Although I only ever saw For Our Hero up on stage three times, each time seemed to get even more and more incredible and worthwhile. And then after the concert, you experience all the memories inside your head over and over to bring a smile to your face. Each time I saw For Our Hero, I always had that and to this day, remembering all my experiences with them never fails to make me smile.
The thing is about them is that even though other bands made my smile on those rainy days; For Our Hero helped me onto my feet on the stormy ones. Around the time of 2012, my life started to take a completely different turn of events. To this day, I’m still on that road but it’s because of FOH that I’m still going forwards and not backwards. They have helped me get through the dark and most difficult times of my life. Things have definitely begun to look up with help from these five. You don’t ever forget a band who have done everything for you without even realising it because to you, they are way more than ‘just a band.’ They are more than just a group of people playing instruments and singing words along with the beat. They become a part of you and your life. And with that, you’ll never forget the memories left behind with them. To anyone reading this, I hope you have that one special artist in your life that will never fail you or let you down. FOH was that special artist for me and endless amounts of thank you’s won’t ever cover a quarter of it.
Without For Our Hero, I wouldn’t be around to type and say this all. I wouldn’t be the person I am today and I wouldn’t have met the most wonderful people in my life. Because of FOH, I have people in my life who mean the absolute world to me. To name a few, I would never have met people like Amy, Nikki, Camilla, Lizzie, Holly and so many others!
However, it is a time to close a chapter in my life called For Our Hero to start the new chapter with their new endeavours. Needless to say, I will be supporting them through it all to the end. FOH will always have that huge part of my life that nothing could ever replace. This is my goodbye and thank you to the boys of For Our Hero because I don’t have the chance too. Thank you for everything that all five of you have brought me. I know I was never with you from the beginning but I will be there until the very end. Thank you for every single thing you boys have done for me, from helping me sleep on the nights I couldn’t stop crying to the days where I needed a song to dance too. To Jay, Dave, Leon, Geoffrey and Beau: good luck with everything you perfect human beings. You mean the absolute universe to me and nothing will ever change that. I have watched you grow and I have grown as a person with you. Thank you for not only showing me, but showing all of your fans through your music that there is hope. You have made my days easier to cope and get through. Never forget that I aka the MisterProzac will forever be loving and supporting you, no matter what x
We know the world's too fucked to save.
