Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) announces casting for the second production of the 2019 Nutmeg Summer Series: Cabaret, the Tony-Award-wi
"Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) announces casting for the second production of the 2019 Nutmeg Summer Series: "Cabaret," the Tony-Award-winning musical centering around a German nightclub against the backdrop of the Nazis' rise to power. The cast will be led by Olivier Award-winner Laura Michelle Kelly (Broadway's "Mary Poppins," "Finding Neverland") as Sally Bowles and Tony Award-nominee Forrest McClendon ("The Scottsboro Boys") as the Emcee. They will be joined by three-time Tony Award-nominee Dee Hoty (Broadway's "The Will Rogers Follies," "Footloose") and Jonathan Brody (Broadway's "Spamalot," "A Bronx Tale"). As previously announced, Peter Flynn will direct with choreography by Christopher d'Amboise. Subscriptions and single tickets are on sale at crt.uconn.edu or 860-486-2113."

when I find myself in times of trouble tony award nominee Forrest McClendon comes to me speaking words of encouragement "GURL YOU WERKED THAT SONG UGH LOOK AT ME I FELL OUT OF MY SEAT I'M SCREAMING UGH YOU ARE FABULOUS DARLING FABULOUS AHH SO MUCH BELT WITH SO MUCH HAIR AND SO MUCH SASS I LOVE IT I LOVE YOU."
My Evening with Forrest McClendon
I had the pleasure of seeing Forrest McClendon in a question-and-answer session at my school today, and was so inspired by what he had to say. Forrest has worked at UArts since the mid-90s, left last year to go play Mr. Tambo (along with a few other roles) in Scottsboro Boys on Broadway (for which he was nominated for a Tony Award), and is now back doing Scottsboro Boys at the Philadelphia Theater Company and getting ready to play Jim in UArts' Big River faculty and student collaboration. I may have accidentally pulled out a pen halfway through and started jotting things down on my arm (ink poisoning...meh) and I wanted to share the moments that personally touched me, in case anyone else was interested:
* " I know the feeling is overwhelming for you, but you need to just come out here and feel it."
* Make a character plot of roles you want to play sometime. A bucket list of characters. Make it your job to find these opportunities and take advantage of them. Do shows that make you happy, not that pay the bills.
* You need to find what is going to make you glow. There's no point in doing work unless you glow while you're doing it. Maybe this means turning down a part because the character's range is not in the place in your voice where you glow, or maybe the part simply doesn't speak to you. Find out what makes you glow, and go do it.
* "You can't do something that's provocative and not expect to be provoked."
* "If you wait to see someone like you, there will be no you." You can't around to see someone like you forging the path for you; you have to forge the path for yourself.
