The thing about Motivation...
I have to admit, I was wrong. I wanted my students to be motivated and I felt that 95% of the motivation had to be intrinsic but tonight I saw a girl look at herself in the mirror. When she saw me looking, she turned, chuckled and said, “MOTIVATION!” I almost yelled out, “That’s exactly what I am thinking about and planning to blog about tonight.”
For a long time I thought motivation had to be pure. I believed that a person had to “want it for themselves” and this would be the push they needed to achieve their hearts desire. But motivation doesn’t have to be pure. What about extrinsic motivation? Sometimes we do it because others are doing it. How many times have you watched the person on the treadmill next to you and you ran faster or raised the incline higher because in your head you were having a little competition with them? That’s motivation!
My friend and cheerleader died. I only knew him for a short time but he made such a great impact on my life that I keep going for him. When I want to give up, I remember he told me ‘never give up’. That’s motivation! Every time I post about my exercise and moving forward, I tag him, because on the days when I don’t want to do it for myself I do it for him.
Life is hard. I saw a post the other night that said, “If you live life, without giving a f&Sk (excuse the questionable language) then you are living a LI(.)E!” Life is a challenge. People will disappoint you and hurt you, but don’t give up. Find your motivation! Even if it means that you have to find something new everyday. Find your motivation. Live it and love it!!! And then one day when you least expect it, you might find that your motivation is you. You will discover that you are doing it because it is your choice.
Don’t give up! Never Give Up!
