Fort Process is an expansive multi­disciplinary music and arts festival that takes place in the evocative spaces of Newhaven Fort in East Sussex: with an extensive programme featuring site­-specific sound installations, international musicians, talks, films, poetry and workshops. 

-- Originally broadcast on NTS. An audio scrapbook compiled by sound artist and musician Graham Dunning, comprised of sonic art and experiments, improvised music, textures and rhythms, as well as selections from Dunning's archive of found home tape recordings, and a variety of semi-regular features.

Fort Process is a one day sound art and music event that utilises the extraordinary resonant spaces of Newhaven Fort. This third edition of the festival will feature performances, installations, talks, workshops and live art, and is part of an extended season that runs from July to October with events at De La Warr Pavilion, Cafe Oto and ACCA.

Themes of modernism, near invisibility and ways in which music- like the Fort- can blend into and work with, rather than against its immediate environment, seem most immediately resonant with today's event. One of the first sound art installations I come across is Timothy Didymus' Glass Harmonica Automata in the Expenses Magazine- a concrete bunker set high on the hillside- which is fiendish in its conceptual simplicity but complex and subtle in execution. A dozen brandy glasses, filled to varying levels, are placed on individual glass turntables and attached with contact mics. Fully automated and unattended, as each turntable clicks into or out of motion, a series of eerie whines and ominous tones resonates in the room and out into the clear Sussex air.
