Hello! I wanted to ask if you had some tips for first Pride? Or just being an adult at pride in general? I'm excited to get a trans pride shirt from your store for one! I really respect your hardcore inclusion and general thoughts, if you have a few spoons to spare! Thanks <3
Hydrate. Seriously. Bring water with you. Gatorade works too. Drink before you think you’re thirsty.
Bring high-protein snacks.
Wear sunscreen. This is all really basic stuff but the number of times that I have seen queers get second-degree sunburns and get sun stroke and pass out because they haven’t eaten? A lot.
Set boundaries for yourself before you go and stick to them. Is it okay for people to hug you? Are you looking for someone to hook up with? (Seriously, think about this stuff ahead of time. Lots of flirts occur at Pride.)
Are you drinking alcohol at Pride? If so, do you have a buddy? I know it’s really tempting to believe that everyone’s gonna be totes cool, but my ex-girlfriend got roofied at a gay bar. Don’t let your guard down on basic bar-related self-care just because you’re at Pride.
Seriously, take a buddy if you can. Pride’s better with friends. :D
Be aware of where you are. Are you in a family-friendly part of Pride, or are you in an adult-oriented part of Pride? Does your Pride have segmented areas like this? Be cool around the kids. :D
Enjoy yourself. You’ll be surrounded by community. Take deep breaths of free air. Let the weight lift for a while. I realize this sounds like it’s at conflict with #5, but it isn’t.
