The Cloisters NYC Is an incredible journey in Manhattan! The Cloisters is a medieval castle at the northern tip of Manhattan in Fort Tryon Park specializing in European architecture, sculpture, and decorative arts, with a focus on the Romanesque and Gothic periods, it contains a large collection of medieval artworks shown in the architectural settings of French monasteries and abbeys. It was purchased by American sculptor and art dealer George Grey Barnard, dismantled in Europe between 1934 and 1939, and moved to New York. They were acquired for the museum by philanthropist John D. Rockefeller, Jr. The museum is operated by the MET. Fort Tyron Park is a gorgeous walking park with gardens and incredible views of the Hudson. The museum's building was designed by the architect Charles Collens, on a site on a steep hill, with upper and lower levels.
