The library had long since emptied of students.
The Fortune Teller stood at one of the towering shelves, carefully returning a stack of borrowed tomes to their proper places. Behind him, another book drifted neatly into the row on its own, guided by pale blue magic.
"You know," came the familiar voice, smooth with unmistakable amusement, "I was perfectly capable of shelving these myself."
The hooded man glanced over his shoulder.
The Headmaster floated a short distance away, one elbow propped lazily atop the air. The starlit cloak of his vibrant outfit made a striking backdrop to his sudden appearance. Ever the showman he was, even as an academic. Such dramatic flair. It was so familiar to the man he would become, yet still so different.
The professor received only a noncommittal grunt from the tarotist. He hummed in return, accepting the response without further comment as he drifted closer.
"I happened to pass by the courtyard earlier," he mused. "You had quite the audience."
Fortune Teller slid another book into place. "Students are curious."
"Enthusiastic, certainly." A smile lingered on the Headmaster's face as he folded his arms, only to unfold them again a moment later, unable to keep still. "Though I also noticed several looked rather disappointed when they left... yet determined."
The Fortune Teller paused for a moment before securing the last book in its proper spot. He turned to properly face the other, folding his hands beneath his large sleeves.
"People that receive a bad fortune may mistake it for shackles," he said quietly. "The cards are not a fixed destiny. Knowing what may come simply gives you the chance to try and change it. I say as much to them.”
The Virtue regarded him for a long moment, studying him with the same impossible focus he reserved for ancient relics and unsolved magical theories.
"Then one could make every correct decision..." He pondered as he rolled onto his back atop the air, staring thoughtfully toward the ceiling. "...and still fail."
"Every choice narrows some paths and opens others."
The Headmaster's gaze wandered. fingertips absentmindedly tapping at his Soul Jam before he turned back to his mysterious guest.
"Curious." He hummed thoughtfully. "I've spent years following fragments of history that seem determined to contradict one another. Every discovery raises another question. Every answer branches into more possibilities." A quiet laugh escaped him, equal parts amused and weary. "One would think the truth would grow simpler the closer one came to it."
"Does it?"
"No." The admission came easily enough. "It only becomes more elusive."
For just a moment, something restless settled behind those piercing blue eyes. It was gone almost as quickly as it appeared, tucked neatly back beneath the practiced theatrics. Even so, Fortune Teller noticed it, that unmistakable fixation of an endless pursuit.
"Yet you continue searching," he observed.
"How could I not?" The Headmaster spread his hands in a helpless gesture before letting them fall with a soft chuckle. "Once you've glimpsed the outline of a truth, abandoning it becomes... remarkably difficult."
The Fortune Teller lowered his shadowed gaze.
"Perhaps," he said, "some truths reveal themselves only after you've stopped looking for the answer"
Silence settled between them.
The professor’s attention returned to him. His head tipped ever so slightly, curiosity brightening his features as he searched the odd cookie’s obscured face for something he could not quite name.
"You're an awfully difficult man to solve."
The Fortune Teller simply mirrored the tilt of his head.
"Mm." A charmed smile tugged at the Headmaster's lips. "Fortunately, I do enjoy a good mystery."

eek!! thank you!!
I think First Headmaster needs to be a little bit of a freak too. For enrichment.
fortune teller and first headmaster is great because you have the chillest living pure vanilla who's only deal is that he fucks around in time and plays with tarot cards, and you also have the most high strung shadow milk who is actively driving himself insane because he can't connect the logic surronding the witxhes
i think it would just be really funny. "eugh!!! point a and point b can't logixally connect!!!" "well yk my tarot cards says they do spiritually."
headmaster kills fortune teller on the spot
