Have you ever considered making a discord server? If you'd like, I could make one for you to share your progress, etc. Just an idea!
If there are any number of you out there who'd find a Discord server more suitable for keeping up with what's going on, I'd be happy to cross-post my updates over there.
I will be making forums, that's a guarantee, and I'd be happy to participate in a Discord (feel free to make one, anon, if you want to take that on). Discord's super easy to use, super convenient, but I'm a big proponent of the web staying open to lurkers, guests, and passers-by, so am always more drawn to the forum model. But I understand it's easier to use/interact with/chat on an app you already have open. (Plus it's one less username/password)

MirrorerMachine is a Discord bot that does the synchronisation of a Discord server and Simple Machines Forum web forum. It's now fully-functional: you can see it working in the two examples below.
Status Update: Forum-Discord Syncing Bot
Specifically, the thing that's time-consuming in setting up the forum is building the Discord syncing bot. This is not a surprise: the other parts basically involve following checklists, but the bot requires me to develop something that, once it's running, won't eat up more time fixing its mistakes than the time it would take to just copy paste every single message manually from forum to Discord or Discord to forum.
I've been able to sync posts between Discord server and forum since the beginning, but everything to do with letting people update and delete and format their messages is a bit messier, because I have to work within the constraints of how Discord bots can access information and what Discord allows bots to do. The above flowchart is my final design for the bot's functionality and high-level implementation. Don't bother to take too close of a look, the need to fit everything in flowchart boxes means it's full of confusing personal shorthands.
