A Community Conversation: The Black Makeup Artist Experience This program will address the unique experience of our Black brothers and sisters in makeup artistry with a panel of important voices of our industry: Merrell Hollis, Bethany Townes, Deshawn Hatcher, Lasonya Gunter, Marietta Carter-Narcisse, Jessica Williams, Janice Tunnell, Denise Tunnell and Selena Miller. These cuts are affecting hundreds of thousands of people's lives. The MAP Grant is what allows me to attend NIU. They want to take this away from us? Enough is enough. All I want is to sleep at night knowing that the two jobs I wake up to work and the education I'm trying to earn will pay off someday. I should not have the pressure of figuring out how I'm going to pay for my education be weighing down more heavily on my brain than my actual course work does. #passthebudget #saveourschools #forwardtogetherforward #afutureforwardtogether

Valentine's Day has a completely different meaning where I live.

I go to school at Northern Illinois University. Five years ago, on this date, five innocent people were killed in an act of violence that was so harsh it changed a community forever. I may not have been a student during the shooting that happened five years ago, but that dosen't mean I haven't learned from the five victims that were killed that day at Cole hall. The community of students that got together today to remember the deaths of those five students touched my heart today. Standing next to the police officers, students, firemen, victims, and their family members who's lives were changed so dramatically that day, showed me how much I appreciate this life I've been given. Their lives will never be forgotten.  WE ARE HUSKIES. #ForwardTogetherForward

Dear Dave,

I know I didn't know you, but your passing still affects me. Still hurts me. Still makes me wonder: if you lived, how much could you have accomplished?  You were so young and with so much potential, I first think it's such a shame. Then, I re-think myself and instead decide that it's actually a crime. I'm not blaming what happened to you on a particular person, I just think it's a crime you're gone. Your parents can only see your winning smile in photographs. Your brothers always feeling they lost their other part.

So, I guess all I can say is thank you for being the amazing guy you were. You accepted everyone and it's a testament to how we should live: love everyone, love every day. You did.
