Nate Landwehr takes a majority decision over David Onama.
MMA is a dumb sport. That was a fun fight. Great action, huge swings in momentum, etc. But there was no reason Onama should have been out there for round 3.
Onama came out looking sharp. Much improved. He was working behind a jab. The combos were clean. He was exiting exchanges. He even got on top and came close to finishing Landwehr with GnP. Landwehr looked lost in there. But Onama was wrestling a lot and expending a lot of energy. In the 2nd, Onama completely fell apart. Like 10-7 level fell apart. Landwehr beat him in every phase of the game. And violently. Had Onama shelling up along the cage, on the ground, and turning tail to run away. By the end of it, Onama was dead on his feet. Krause and his other cornermen had to hold him up. And they had to ask him 10x if he wanted to continue to get a response (a very reluctant yes) out of him. And he looked terrible for the vast majority of round 3 too as Landwehr beat on him everywhere again. The only thing that saved Onama was Landwehr clowning him. He’d get up from half guard or side control and flex, allowing Onama to get back up. And that allowed Onama to throw hail mays that would connect on Landwehr a few times. He actually knocked Landwehr down at the end of the round, but most of the damage was still done by Landwehr.
That type of third round can really be a career ender. Physical damage aside, those are career rethinker types of rounds. Luckily Landwehr self-sabotaged at the end there but still.
