Ok so this Persian ruler commisioned this artist to make portraits for him, ok who cares right?

WRONG, according to Khan Academy, "Although Persian texts are reticent on the subject of the romantic life of Shah 'Abbas, a portrait of the shah and a page by Muhammad Qasim, dated 1627, suggests that Abbas found beardless youths very appealing in the last years of his life."

Here's the important part though- Being clean shaven in a lot of historical Arab cultures was considered more feminine or youthful in appearance. Which means
