Mechanical Orange Peel Grab

Introduction

Mechanical orange Peel (Cactus) Grabs in several executions for scrap or small rocks handling. These grabs are also suitable for dredging purposes.

These grabs are also available in four rope executions. For the four rope operations, capacities and empty weights on request. For handling single big rocks, up to 120 tons, we have a special 3 or 4 tine rock handling grab in two or four rope execution.

The grabs are manufactured of high wear resistant steels. The shells are fitted with heavy-duty integrated teeth, The lever arms are reinforced to avoid bending. All bearings and shafts are heavy-duty for high performance.

A well designed orange peel grabs for handling different type of materials with maximum productivity requires more than just the raw skill of welding and assembly of all pieces together. It requires experience in varying some keys parameters, for examples, dead weight, penetration force, geometry, number of tine, just to name a few. Introduction

The fully mechanical clamshell is designed specifically to be used on a crane for large capacity dredging, digging and bulk handling applications. The opening and closing action is operated via cable either single line, 2 lines or 4. The inner side of the bucket has a smooth surface for easy unloading of high viscosity material such as mud and clay, while the outer layer is reinforce with additional layer of wear strips. The hanger is constructed with high tensile steel.

 The design concept and criteria of a dredging versus a general purpose loading/unloading mechanical/cable clamshell differs greatly due to its differences in the nature of application and working condition. The geometry and weight distribution of a good clamshell design plays a significant role in determining its overall efficiency.
