You can buy essentials: I bought a bassinet, two onesies, diapers, desatin and a car seat. The rest can be gotten after or from the hospital. Also pro tip- order a breast pump to get to your house immediately. You need to start pumping right after giving birth to increase milk supply, even when your babe latches well. The hospital will provide a lot and you can take it all. If you live in America, you can get a pump for free through insurance. You are going to do great!
Thanks! We do have a rabbi we have consulted with on this topic, as mentioned, so I’m aware what we’re able to get ahead of time per our minhag/specific situation. We were told not to get the car seat beforehand unless there were extenuating circumstances (e.g. getting it from a limited-time-only sale like we did, or there being some reason we couldn’t feasibly have my husband or someone else get it after the birth but before leaving the hospital).

You do not need to buy a pump to increase milk supply…. Also yes the same happened to us! I think a lot of people borrow one before buying their own.
Yes, from what I have been taught not only do you not need to pump immediately under normal circumstances when the baby is healthy and you’re planning to nurse (after all, mothers nursed successfully for thousands of years before that was even an option), but there are various reasons davka not to do so until a few weeks in. Obviously there are exceptions to every rule but I’ve never heard of pumping right away being something standard. I do have a pump because I need it for when I go back to work, and I wanted to take care of getting that ahead of time because I didn’t know how long it would take insurance to process the order (turns out not very long at all but hey, better safe than sorry), but it’s not needed immediately.
We were also told to possibly borrow a car seat but like...I just don’t feel like my friends have random extra car seats that they don’t need sitting around, lol. I’d rather know that we have ours and it’s the one I want and we don’t have to stress about it while taking care of baby.
