Finished Burn the Witch. Not sure how I feel about it. Did I like it? Yeah. Did I like the whole four chapters wham bam thank you see you at the animeness of it all? I dunno. I feel like because it was just kind of a prologue I don’t have anything to say. I do plan to watch the anime when it comes out.
I'm kind of curious since it's possible Julius died and the resurrection spell all occurred around the time of year that the Magic Knight exams are typically held if Clover Kingdom just didn't have any. Makes me wonder if we do ever see a crop of new Magic Knights in six months if they'll come from an even bigger pool of applicants than usual or if we're about to enter enough destabilization that things like a Magic Knight exam won't matter

Reflecting on episode 98:
Fuegoleon was really surprised to learn Mereoleona was the captain of the Crimson Lions and pointed out that she isn't really into the whole magic knight thing in general. The narrative also seems to heavily imply that the Crimson Lions captaincy might be an inherited captaincy. Fuegoleon took over from their dad, Leopold seems super certain he will be captain one day, etc... So I'm thinking Mereoleona took over even though it's not really her thing not only because revenge, but possibly also because otherwise Leopold would become captain and he’s only 16 or 17 depending on when August is in the storyline so he's been at this magic knight thing for months or over a year most likely. So like green teen child soldier leading an elite squad is a bit much (and we see this in how Leopold loses control of the situation when he doesn't retreat with the injured). Why put her littlest brother through a captaincy during an invasion from Eye of the Midnight Sun when he’s ill-equipped for it emotionally? That’s like Big Sister 101 especially after Fuegoleon ended up unconscious and amputated.
It’s interesting and I’m looking forward to learning more when we get to what’s covered in the gap between episode 98 and chapter 214 where I picked up reading the manga.
It's a shame we didn't get a Black Clover birthday filler episode because I'm curious how Asta and Yuno's first birthday where they probably finally got to have birthday cake (or maybe a cake not made out of potato?) and they didn't have to share a birthday song went. Like was it a mixture of feelings kind of like how Asta talked about how nice it is to have a room to himself but also kind of lonely? Did they miss whatever birthday whatever they’ve been doing for the first fifteen birthdays? Did they run into each other or something? Did anyone around them know it was their birthday? Does Clover Kingdom follow western birthday traditions or a more Japanese tradition? Maybe the day was no big deal. All we really know is it happened some time before the festival.
I want to see the Henry and Zora dolls. I’m curious how Gordon will render Henry’s hair and how he’ll make Zora look even gothier
It's an hour and a half later into my pause in the middle of reading chapter 245 because the whole "spreading the gospel" was too Christany for Midoriya to actually be saying and now I've got to try and identify the kanji being used because the furigana is so tiny I can't discern what's being said lsajkfasdjkaljfaslfj but I'm going to figure it out because wtf wtf wtf, Viz, gospel my ass
