Orazio Luciano Trunk Show October '13 The evolution of tailoring, from military dress through to the modern day, took what many think of as its most distinctive turn when the grand tourists introduced English suiting to Naples. Stripped of its heavy canvas, shoulders de-padded, lines neatened and its overall form softened, the Neapolitans created, then continued to refine, a style of tailoring that is more pertinent today than ever before. One of the great standard bearers of modern Neapolitan tailoring, Orazio Luciano started out in the workroom of one of the originators in Naples, stealing furtive glances at how he struck each pattern whenever opportunity would allow. Time and chance saw him with one of the biggest Neapolitan tailoring houses, making patterns for their ready to wear and Su Misura ranges that would define Southern Italian tailoring to the world at large. In partnership with his son, Pino, Orazio now offers truly handmade tailoring that holds the integrity of Neapolitan tailoring with the modern stylistic choices he sees as the natural evolution of the style. Slimmer, with an elongated lapel formed by a high notch and mid buttoning point, the shoulders carry enough mappina to be distinctive, showing of the handwork with each stitch and buttonhole. We are very proud to have Orazio in store next month, on the 14th and 15th, taking orders for suits, odd jackets and coats to be delivered for the coming winter. We will also be showing a range of particular pieces of cloth from the great West Country mill of Fox Flannels, with their classic worsteds, flannels, jacketings and the new book of London Lounge cloth by Michael Alden.
