My Parlee is also celebrating a milestone: 10 years. The first frame in Australia (and possibly internationally as well) it is as fantastic now as it was back then. It's quite inexpensive actually...in 10 years it's stopped me buying everyother bike I've even seen!

Farewell Assos roubaix....hello Assos t.607
Finally I wore out a pair of Assos winter shorts! Must be 10 years of service and I love my winter shorts - they ae all I wear for 1/2 the year! (late autumn to mid spring!).
So this gave me the opportunity to purchase a few pairs of the latest thermal short from Assos (I try to have at least 4 pair of thermals shorts and 5 pair of summer shorts to accomodate the constant riding during the seasons!)
And this is my first time I've been able to purchase a pair of thermal shorts - usually I have bought the previous models that go past the knees and trimmed them down at the tailors into shorts.
the zippers up the belly are gone...
and the great patch (so much better than clinical green)
so...what are the advantages of the new t.607 knicks?
Fabric: the new new fabric is sublime and it enables the short to feel comfortable in a much wider range of tempretures; the old roubaix style fabric was for 8 degrees and under, whiulst the new fabric can be worn down to -2 (as cold as it got this winter) yet when the day warms up, even up to 18-20 degrees, the shorts still feel great.
The new style of leg grippers (the wider the better) are better and the fit is the same as it always was - couldn't improve there!
The straps and made of lighter material and seem more thermally balanced - you don't end up with hot patches on the upper back etc.
So all in all, the new shorts are fantastic!
and now....these t.607 have been replaced with a newly released model, the Tiburu S7 - with the latest generation of chamois. These would be wonderful to try out, except my oldest pair of Assos thermal knicks looks like it still has many more years left in them!
My sofa is now better dressed than 99.99% of Australian men...
Figured I might as well use a little of this menswear knowledge around the house...bought a second hand Moran sofa and had her re-done in Fox Flannel!

Everyman likes to feel like he is a bit rugged in the kitchen...I don't use utensils, I use tools.
Designed by Renzo Piano, sometimes when an architect tries their hand at smaller objects the results can be very....uncomfortable....but in this case the results were spectacular.
Christmas 2013
A new house for the family; a great wife and wonderful little boy - I couldn't think of anything I wanted to unwrap on the morning. I gave my wife this recently purchased pocket square to give back to me as a gift...
Lovely colours, bit shocked to find it is 70% wool - the reason for the cream colour...my other Roda multi colour is pure silk. Hope to try this one out soon!
New jumper/sweater - replacement of the J.Crew
Howlin' by Morrison (a Belgium brand) 100% virgin wool and made in Scotland! One of those wonderful thanks-giving sales and only cost $120, the XL fit very well, ran true to size, they don't do XXL either. The cost was very reasonable when compared to other Shetland sweaters. We'll see how it lasts - but others have been impressed with the brand.
At first I thought I was a bit silly purchasing this Jumper on the first day of summer - but it's been a cold, wet & miserable start to the season anyway!
12 years strong!
Finally retired after 12 years of service!
Started life on the Paconi, then the Parlee before finally finding their place on the Stevens cyclocross bike for the past 6 years - total of one broken spoke and a set of bearings in that time. So strong!

Castelli nano-flex shoe covers
These work well - kept the rain, showers and road grime out last weekend and the cold blustery winds off the very-well ventilated shoes today.
They are light, easy to clean (with a simple wet rag after walking in the door) and have a great zip closure and good cutouts for heel and cleats (I dislike shoe covers that want you to wear through the heel section by wear-and-tear. The length is spot on and the closure at the top of the ankle is really good - rain never entered into the bootie and I was wearing shorts without knee warmers (legs were coated with embrocation for the rain).
A really nice piece of kit - I personally have grown to like the matrix / S&M dominatrix look of the bootie - they look pretty serious on!
The silver pair would look great if you were wearing the Castelli pocket liner jacket (matching silver)

I sold the Castelli neprene booties (Diluvio 16) during the week - they are very well designed but I don't like the idea of neoprene for cycling - I'd rather keep the wetness out than have it sit it the fabric and be warmed by my body heat. The construction of the copver was really impressive, the re-inforced rear zipper especially so.
He was never Jesus....he is just an amazing cyclist.
I never subscribed to the Lance is the cancer-curing God syndrome that others believed. Athletes should not be your personal heroes just because they perform their chosen activity with such greatness.
But what a cyclist! one of the greats! simply an amazing athlete.
Haven't worn these for years and are throwing them out however wanted to keep a photo to have a chuckle...these were so much better than the yellow wrist bands and they always say there is a little truth in all great jokes!
A bit of fun whilst they lasted...
Northwave skeleton gloves - decent bit of kit, comfortable and casued normal non-cycling folk smile. They disintergrated after a few years of wear on Friday - a 75km ride with Alex in the baby carrier in the rain and wind (not a good day on the bike!). Farewell!
Northwave were the first 'proper' cycling shoes I owned, still love the reversed colours (red & yellow) of them and held onto them for years just for the pure Italian style of them. They were very good shoes; comforatble and well made and the gloves have kept up that tradition.
Horologically matched!
The Pegoretti matched with a 7-Eleven era Tag Heuer Formula 1; Tag sponsored the team (for the first year I believe).
Slowly restored 384.513 - still has to go the watchmaker for cleaning etc
Shimano: supporting the big-footed freaks with precision footware
The R320 top-of-the-line Shimano shoe is available to Ronald McDonald, the entire NBA league and myself. Fanatastic to see a company willing to offer it's utmost shoe levels to the bigger set (49 and 50).
Whilst I have been riding in Sidi for the past 12 years, it has been using the Dominator/Genius models with the carbon/nylon 'millenium' sole (devised in the year 2000?) whilst watching Sidi release year after year of magnificent footwear that finished off at a size 48 (ergo, spider, wire etc). Sidi don't seem in an rush to produce their carbon sole in a size 49/50 leaving us big footed giants with the mid-range offerings - the sales of these giant shoes must be so small as to not be worth the cost in carbon molds for the company which is a real shame (it also occurs in the motorcycle range - which is worse as you are giving up safety features and not just performance when comparing the upper Sidi boots to the mid-range models).
The Shimano shoe auditions very well, slipper like comfort as you slide your foot in with incredibly soft uppers that seem to mold to your foot shape and a noticably light shoe both in the hand and on the foot.
The custom process involves heating the shoe and footbeds and then having a plastic bag cover your foot and a vacuum applied which pulls in the heel socket and the footbed up into your arch - a parculiar sensation if ever I felt one! The results are a fantastic shoe and a real feeling of value for money - you get a lot of features and showmanship for your dollar.
The new shoes weigh 334g each vs. the 408g of the Sidi - a saving of 150grams total and it's rotating weight too!
Possible issues: extremely well vented shoes will be a wonderful asset in the Australian summer heat - and when winter and autumn come to greet us each year the shoes will require an entire range of booties and warmers to keep out the winter chill from all those vents!

Pegoretti Falz fork
Bought the fork a few months back and just got it back from Steve at Sun Graphics...looks great! Pearl white is very difficult to match and in the sun the difference would be noticable - but blends very well.
Next on the agenda: try and locate a 'raw' or uncoated ENVE seatpost and have the red strips applied to it and some Yokozuna cables for the Record 10 speed - I've heard they are superb.
This completes my 'refresh' of the Pegoretti - she is 6 years old and this is her second refresh.Best part about owning custom bicycles, you update them instead of replacing them - the miles and experiences continue to bond you and machine as oppose to starting again with the 'latest and greatest' that will be discarded in 3 years time.

Tried, tested and put in the trash....
I've just thrown out the last of my three pairs of Adidas shoes; a Rod Laver (whilst overseas) and 2 Stan Smiths. They are simply woeful shoes - truly get what you pay for, they are inexpensive and a displeasure to wear.
The Rod Laver looks great - wore a pair overseas and I by day 4 there were considerable signs of wear on the sole - by the end of week one I had a feeling they wouldn't last and by 2 weeks into the trip they were left in a hotel bin. The upper was light and airy and very comfortable in the summer heat of Italy - however the sole is soft and flimsy, best suited for the beach. A nice shoe, as long as you don't plan on walking! They would last a few tennis matches at best!
The Stan Smith is another classic design in the Adidas arsenal - unfortunetly ever corner has been cut to produce the shoe at the cheapest possible price point - the 'leather' is split and then the surface is built up with plastics so that your feet cannot breath - they become uncomfortable after an hour of wearing them. The durability of the shoe is decent - the uppers will rot near the sole and go first...and the surface of the 'leather'will bubble if you get them wet.
This is why Common Projects et al. have come into the market - classic designs but in decent quality so that you can wear them and enjoy them...unfortunetly they don't produce them in a size 13.
Cheap shoes = false economy!
