I saw something, far enough into the trees and brush that I couldn't clearly make out its size or distance, but it was clearly some kind of animal.
I determined that it was probably a fox lying on the ground, which had me worried. So I went outside and slowly approached— at which point the fox jolted upright, made eye contact, and darted deeper into the woods.
I feel bad for disturbing their nap, but I'm glad they're healthy.
