Going to the postbox let you know if I see a fox
My little friend came back. Took this from my kitchen window on my new lumix. The super zoom is SO GOOD.
My old friend Rini showed up this evening (left) followed by a new friend. None of my foxes had cubs this year but this little chap showed up out of the blue whilst I was doing the dishes. I’d say he’s probably about four months old. He is new to the garden and was thoroughly enjoying leaping over the long grass and snuffling in the flower beds.
I haven’t seen Rini for several month, so it was really nice to see her back in her old stomping ground. Her hips are looking awfully thin so I put out some wet food and water for her. What she left TNKOTB finished off. I hope to see them both again soon!
Please put out water for your friendly neighbourhood wildlife. It’s awfully hot out and will be grateful for it.
No new fox cubs this year, but nice to see our Mama and Papa fox out on a date night none the less 😍
Like Animals of Farthing Wood over here.
Because baby fox season is soon to be upon us, and I will undoubtedly go fox cub picture mad in the near future, I want to introduce you to our* little fox family.
We have three females, one is the mother to the other two. The father (below) of the cubs occasionally visited when the cubs were small but we have not seen him since they got old enough to hunt for themselves.
Bonus picture (below) is Rini as a cub. She is the only fox in our garden with a name. This is because she was badly wounded in the summer and she needed a name to be admitted into the vets. A course of antibiotics and some careful care later, she was fit and healthy and returned to her family. I am doubly excited because Rini appeared in our garden today for the first time since November, so I am hoping this means she will be moving back in as the season warms up.
* I use “our” to mean that they lived in our garden up until the winter when they went their separate ways. We do not own them, they are wild animals . We do not handle or directly interact with them, only spy on them through series of spy cameras we have set up. We sporadically put food out for them, especially when Rini was wounded and needed the extra help, and ensure they have a clean water bowl available to them at all times.
I have this new insta account where I post videos and photos of the foxes me and my family feed check it out !
