DEAD. she was dead. her mom was going to kill her.
dressed in all black, liza’s gloved fingers slid across the keyboard of the main computer in foxcroft’s security room. her mother supplied the school with their surveillance technology and after calling in a few favors, liza had the passwords needed to get in and shut off the cameras looking over the great hall.
everyone was asleep, the path was clear of cameras, time to go. liza grabbed her backpack full of literal explosives off the security room floor and started to make her way towards the great hall. she climbed the stairs all the way to the roof. so far so good. she didn’t see anyone, she didn’t hear anything. opening her backpack, she laid out the assorted fireworks she had planned for that night. if she was going to do this, she was going to do it right. liza perez was putting on a fireworks show.
she set up the fireworks in a vertical line running down the middle of the roof, leading to the door for the staircase so she could hold out the lighter, run across, and escape before all the fireworks went off. she looked down at her phone, the time was 3:00am, the witching hour. what better time to do it. she took a deep breath, turned the lighter and started to run. she made sure the fire made contact with the wick and started to burn before lighting the next one. she made sure the wicks were long enough to give her time to escape before lighting up the firework.
once she reached the end, liza booked it for the door. she shoved the lighter in her pocket and slammed the door shut before racing down the stairs. it would of been all good and well had the last firework not been shaken out of alignment by the vibration of the door slamming shut. the firework was now sitting at an angle as the wick began to burn. while the other fireworks began bursting in the sky, this one flew out, missed the edge of the roof, somehow completely bypassed a building by a hair, then made it’s booming exit against the fountain in the garden.
liza was halfway to her dorm when she heard the thundering crash. yup, RIP.
