The luxury and delight of being able to collaborate with Nicole West and incorporate one of her sculptures into another work of art is so endlessly fun and inspiring! Here is her Floral Geisha, mixed with my own imaginings. Enjoy!
Current happenings....
Hello all! Those of you who follow me (and I thank you so much for doing so!) probably know by now that I create art for a living. I update here now and then, usually when I'm taking a break from working on art, but I rarely post actual updates on the current goings on in my life! So I figured I would do one now. :) Read on if you are so inclined. This week is the International Licensing Expo in Las Vegas. My agent, MGL-UK, is there representing myself along with their huge catalog of other artists. It is an exciting time, because a lot of what companies license for the coming year is decided upon at this show. I spent the past few weeks jamming on a bunch of new artwork, mostly art specifically designed for jigsaw puzzles, to be presented at this show. I've had an overwhelmingly huge response to my 'book shelf' line, and am already pleased to announce that five new pieces will be released as puzzles in 2015!! Creating art for a living isn't the most lucrative business to be in, even WITH an agent out there licensing your product. I think anybody in a creative field can raise a glass to that. I depend on sales not only through licensing, but through my website. Believe it or not, those independent sales... whether they are of art prints, tote bags, or other items, actually help me pay my monthly bills. And while I always try to just 'make good art' and not think about the business end of things... I do, on occasion, have to put a little advertising out there and cross my fingers that people will still love what I do enough to want to make it a part of their lives in some tangible form. And I thank every single one of you who has done that very thing. You enable me to continue doing what I love, and that is a huge gift. Immeasurable, really. I know how hard it is in this economy to spend hard earned money on something. I struggle with the same decision every time I look at the bank account before I take a leap and make a purchase. So every single payment I get, whether it is .20 cents that I make on a postcard, or $20.00 on a larger work of art... is accepted with utmost gratitude. I have a bunch of projects going this summer. Not the least of which is the formulation of a Kickstarter for the long awaited release of my children's book. After coming to the swift realization that trying to be published through a traditional book publisher would compromise the original vision of the story.... I have decided - along with my creative partner Chris Dane Owens - to put the power of publishing in the hands of the people. The Kickstarter will allow us to bring our vision straight to you, without a publisher trying to guess what is and isn't 'marketable'. I don't want my story to be tied to the strings of someone else's marketing machine. I want it to remain the pure and true story that came from my daydreams and imagination... and I think fans of my artwork would want nothing less. So I am really excited that we will be able to provide this opportunity to everyone who has shown interest in the book. The plans for that are being outlined right now, and we are aiming for an August launch at the Sci-Fi/Fantasy convention SpoCon, in Spokane Washington where I will be the artist Guest of Honor!! So please keep on the watch for those announcements!! There is a lot of new artwork is on the way. My focus in the past months has been on puzzle art, but I am excited to let you know that I will be presenting a number of new works that are poetic and stirring, and something that I hope takes you away into dreamland with me.j I also have some exciting collaborations coming up - with artisan Nicole West, with the band Abney Park, with the writer Jenny Karns, and more! Lots and lots to share with you in the coming months. So thank you again for all your wonderful support. I wake up with a sense of wonder and astonishment every day that I am able to do what I've loved all my life, and you are all responsible for making that dream come true. <3 ~Aimee~
