Nightfall in the Sky

As night fell, the sky transformed into a canvas of stars, casting a soft glow over our journey. Rufus peered out of the balloon's basket, his eyes wide with wonder and a hint of unease. The once vibrant landscape below faded into a sea of shadows, and the only sound was the gentle whoosh of the hot air balloon burner.

Despite his initial anxiety, Rufus seemed mesmerized by the tranquil beauty of the night. The moonlight illuminated his fur, making him look almost ethereal. It was a serene moment, a stark contrast to the day's excitement and questions.

Victor, ever the seasoned pilot, reassured us that everything was going smoothly. He shared stories of his countless night flights, each one adding a layer of comfort to the quiet night. As we drifted through the night sky, I felt a deep sense of peace and awe. The world below was sleeping, but up here, we were on a magical adventure.

Meeting Victor, Our Pilot

Victor, our pilot, shared that he’s been obsessed with flying since early childhood. With around 4.2 million flight miles under his belt, he is one of the most seasoned hot air balloon taxi pilots in his company. This greatly reassured Caitmilly, but not Rufus. During the first few hours, Rufus kept asking, "Are we there yet?", "How much longer?", and "Why is it taking so long?"

As a flight professional experienced with anxious passengers, Victor engaged Rufus in a game to distract him. They started playing "I Spy," where Victor would describe something he sees, and Rufus had to guess what it was. It worked wonders in keeping Rufus occupied and easing his nerves.

A Last-Minute Surprise 

Just as Caitmilly was about to take off, she heard her name being called from a distance. To her astonishment, she saw Rufus running towards her! It seemed he had a change of heart at the very last moment and decided to join her on the adventure. Caitmilly’s heart soared with joy. She couldn’t be happier to have her dear friend by her side for this incredible journey.

A Heartfelt Farewell

Early in the morning, Caitmilly said goodbye to Rufus. It broke her heart to leave him behind. She would have loved to fly to the island with him, but maybe it’s for the best.

He had never been to the sea and might have found it boring. Here in the forest, he knows his way around, and Ferdinand will surely keep him company.

Caitmilly gave him a heartfelt farewell and set off for the rendezvous point. She has several hours of walking ahead of her.
