Saw your post weeks ago about primary care options, use chiming in that FQHCs (federally qualified health centers): details vary but in general are not attached to hospitals etc, no RVU crap. Is what you think of as a ‘safety net’ clinic - government pays a little extra for Medicaid patients to cover the bottom line, in exchange we never turn away Medicaid / Medicare and have sliding scale for un/underinsured. Yes our schedules are packed but no one minds if you spend extra time with patients.

Good to know! I thought about FQHCs but didn’t know how they were paid. And all the ones I know of are absolutely slam packed and don’t have time to spend with people. But I love FQHCs. They need good doctors.

CHCs will play a key role in meeting the demands placed on the health care system by a large influx of insured consumers. They're the organizations that are in the prime position to take on new Medicaid patients. It's a good problem to have. We need care delivery innovation, motivated and energized staff, and more teaching in health centers to meet the challenge of this problem.
