FATHER BROWN S10 E01 — the winds of change
“still here, chief inspector?”
FB SCRAPBOOK ; owl of minerva septembleford day 21 — help (alt prompt)
one of the eps of all time i stg
SULLIVAN + PRESBYTERY GANG ; two septembleford day 8 — rest
fully Not Normal about sullivan being told to trust no-one, and yet going to father brown for help,,, they are so family i stg
thinking about sullivan accepting felicia’s invitation in curse of amenhotep — inspector sullivan and guest.
him inviting his mother as his plus one, mostly to give her an excuse to get away from his father for the evening. grace then managing to stretch it out to three days in kembleford because “the trains will be a nightmare, walter.” staying with sullivan, a much-needed break from walter’s tight control.
presbytery gang getting to see how much softer and happier sullivan is when his mother’s there. how his eyes light up when he sees her, how attentive and gentle he is with her, so different to the standoffish inspector they’re used to.
them and grace swapping stories about sullivan at the soirée. sullivan overhearing, wondering why father brown is talking about him so warmly, because to his mind his presence in kembleford is nothing more than an irritation to them all. not realising that father brown and the others have become rather fond of their feral cat inspector. (grace, on the other hand, had recognised this almost at once)
BBC Father Brown characters as Muppet Christmas Carol characters
twelve days of fishmas, day 4 — carol
ok so some of these are very close matches, some are more based on half-vibes, and some are just,,, the only characters i had left. i have tried to make them work, but in some cases you may find me willfully ignoring parts of father brown canon to make things fit (esecially with the women bc there are only like six female characters in the movie and two of them are bloody identical). pls just ignore this gjshfjdhf
pls also ignore any odd relationships / dynamics that appear as a result of certain character pairings — this is solely about the individual characters, not how they interact and whatnot. (sullivan and grace i am so so so sorry for giving you characters who are courting in the movie,,, but also this is on you for fitting those characters so well 😭😭)
FB SCRAPBOOK ; the show must go on septembleford day 29 — practice (alt prompt)
i am never getting over sullivan’s silly little outfit and his v autistic shakespeare obsession in this ep tbh
can’t stop thinking about the cultural implications of father brown s12 ep2 for the in-universe timeline
like,, an amateur dramatics group in a random village has just redefined the murder mystery genre (completely by accident). their opening night was a spectacular trainwreck — lightning in a bottle when they were trying to catch rain — and now, somehow, they’re expected to recreate it
a sergeant is playing the detective inspector. an actual detective inspector is playing the priest. an actual priest is playing the dead guy. one of the actors is playing two people on stage at the same time for no apparent reason, and at the end the actual detective inspector / fake priest gets stuck in the curtains. you cannot convince me this wouldn’t go on to become a ridiculously popular show with a committed, slightly obsessive group of fans
so.. did they extend the run? did sullivan find himself playing a priest for a lot longer than he expected, find himself missing the cassock and the stage makeup when they had a day off? did it keep going even after they’d given it up, with a new cast and a new location? do the group sometimes get stopped in the street by people asking for autographs or telling them how much they love the show, how they like the new cast but they really miss the original run? did sullivan’s father have an aneurysm when he realised his son’s name is forever tied to The First Comedy/Murder-Mystery Play? god.. so many questions
