The last update I made for the coverage checker which allows you to see the “outside the lines %” was insanely popular, much to my surprise.
So I worked a little bit more on that, giving you an optional Advanced Coverage Info tab once you select a file on the Upload page.
@autopilot-rising gave me a really good example on how “hidden” stuff shows up on this checker with one of their skins.
Here you see the normal skin as you are used to
And here is the advanced view
At the bottom you can manipulate the different layers, in case the default settings are not clear enough for you.
These settings you see at the bottom also appear on your profile settings page where you can set these values to a different default. This will, of course, require you to be logged in.
Hopefully this will help people figure out where they might be outside of the lines as reported by FRTools : )

Busy times indeed. Been working hard IRL on a job, but that hasn’t stopped me from putting some time in to this project every now and again!
This update is regarding profiles. It’s something that has been in dire need, since it started to become somewhat unmanageable. Most of the changes are “under the hood” but there are definitely changes for users as well.
Profile settings revamp
The reason this blog post is here, the profile settings revamp. The old system was a mess of enumerations and checking for flags based on the same value.. was nice for when it was just a few things but now it has grown too much. So back to basics and everything is now toggleable. A simple Yay or Nay for each setting, on a brand new page too!
I ported over all the settings from the previous way how it was saved into this new system. So you shouldn’t need to change anything if say your profile was private before the “Profile visibility” will simple already be toggled to “Private”.
Now you might be noticing a few settings that weren’t there before on the old page..
Pinglists on profiles
First off, profiles will finally show a user’s (public) pinglists. Since our good friend autopilot has a lot of them on their account, I’m borrowing it for a screenshot. (ngl, this is only a third of the pinglists x.x)
These will appear under your skins and previews, if you have them enabled on your profile of course. Naturally, you can disable showing pinglists on your profile if you do not use that tool or if you don’t plan to have any public lists.
Profile bio and FR link visibility
While I was redoing stuff on the profile page I was looking at that blob at the top where it says if you have your Flight Rising account linked. For one it felt very barren, and secondly it felt a bit exposed. The FR verification is something I added to give ease of mind to people looking at skins and wanting to make sure this wasn’t a stolen skin. But I got some features in mind that will require this link in the future that doesn’t really need it to be so visible. So I made it a toggle! You can link your account and hide it on the places that show it.
This made the amount of text in that block really small, so I figured why not include some user content there in the form of a simple bio? So I did. You can edit your profile’s bio and just add some text there. It doesn’t support any rich text or anything, so no bbcode or html. It supports new lines though, so it got that going for it.
Manage skins
The manage skins section of the skin tester always felt somewhat out of place on the account management page. This used to make sense when the skin tester was literally the only thing on the website. But with all the things added over time it felt very out of place. So I moved it to it’s own page under the skin tester section.
And that is about it. A lot of changes were under the hood as mentioned to make this more snappy and more expandable in the future.
As always if you got any questions, problems or just plain want to chat feel free to join our Discord server! I’m always open for suggestions too, if you have them.
So as my last post stated I am running out of monthly links, it is probably a one time thing (see image below why) but it has caused me to take a deeper look into how many links actually get posted on the Flight Rising forums. It aren’t really that many.
This is the amount of links generated over the past month, according to bitly:
As you can see last sunday was a bit of a peak, very likely due to Veilspun :’P
So what I ended up doing is making bit.ly links optional and opt-in. On your skin upload result, skin management and pinglist management you will see an additional text box with “Generate!” next to it, instead of Copy. When you click that it will generate a bit.ly link for you and save that as part of your skin/pinglist. Any future visits to your skin/pinglist management page will also show you the bit.ly link already:
After clicking “Generate!” it will fetch you the bit.ly link:
So if you don’t plan on posting your skin/pinglist on the forums of Flight Rising then you don’t need to generate a bit.ly link and save me from hitting my quota this month :D
As promised, here is the first update to the discord bot!
This update adds two new modules, with more commands to be added to these modules in the near future. The modules added allow you to look up dragons within Discord and also allow you do use the skin tester in Discord. The commands for all of them and how they are used can be found on the help page over here.
This particular update also changes some of the backend code dealing with previewing skins, due to the discord bot sharing code with the website now. Please make sure to report any bugs on Github or on our Discord server.
Here are some examples of the new commands:
Lookup of dragon 51500313
Share a skin you uploaded on the site:
Preview the skin gfbBo with a scry:
Or with existing dragon 56434214:
You can choose which preview you want shown in the embed, though both image will be generated similar to using the website to preview. You can use the links provided for a link to the image preview.
You can invite the discord bot to your own server using this link, or just visit the info page on the site’s dedicated page here.
Do you have any other commands you would like to see in the bot to make your Flight Rising life just that little bit easier? Let me know in a reblog :3
And as always, you can contact us on Discord or through Github!
Flight Rising came up with a new breed for people to play with, which means people will be making new skins and accents. New eye masks have been generated, enumerations (lists) have been updated and code has been refactored (slightly) to add support for the second ancient breed: Banescale.
It took me a good half hour to generate the eye masks due to Flight Rising constantly timing out and finding out a few small bugs in my generator.. but it is all in place now!
I don’t foresee any issues with this update, as most of the work was already in place for the previous Gaoler update so I suppose I did a good job there. Had to change a few things here and there that was looking a bit to specific at Gaolers in code.
But should you come across some problem, images not rendering correctly or the sorts, be sure to let me know on github or poke me on Discord at Nensec#1337. You shouldn’t need to friend me, to DM me, if you are part of the FR or GenOne Hell discord servers.
On a side note, a side project is currently being tested which will be announced soon... ish. This one is for you dominant people out there!
As usual, if you have any concerns, questions or issues, feel free to write us on Discord at either Nensec#1337 or ange#9918. Or just toss an anonymous question here on Tumblr.
I want to get myself back involved more into this project, seeing the amount of support you have been giving me on my ko-fi page as well as people approaching kvei for commissions after announcing our coming hardships for a few months. One of the things I want to do, monthly, is to give some insights on the site’s usage. I’m not entirely sure yet how this will look like every month, if it’ll be the same or have different things each month, we’ll see!
How busy has the site been?
I use the service Cloudflare to increase the DNS performance, as well has have a small free caching buffer on the site for static data. One of the additions you get when using Cloudflare is that they keep track of your site’s usage data.
Over the last month the site saw just under 4k unique visitors, with a whopping 648 on July 28th, as well a big spike earlier on July 10th worth 625 unique visitors.
In terms of bandwidth usage, you all uploaded/updated and previewed skins worth 1.11GB of data over the same span of time.
Which skin was the most popular?
The site had its humble beginnings as a skin tester/previewer for FR. So it makes sense that this is still the most used feature on the site. So let’s dig into last month’s skin data and see what comes up! This also gives me an excuse to highlight skins, something I’ve been wanting to do but haven’t really found a good way to do it yet.
The most previewed skin by far has been FATAL ERROR DETECTED by Qomble (nachonacho18) with 165 previews generated.
Second place we have Daybreak Siren by psidoodles with 148 previews generated.
Third place we have llueve luz by sterlingonacid (sterlingonacid) with 127 previews generated.
In total over there have been 4242 previews generated, for 386 different skins or skin versions. This month also marks the milestone of passing 50000 previews generated in the total lifespan of the site 🥳!
Is there anything you are interested in?
If there is a particular piece of data you want to see highlighted next month, leave a message on our Discord, or just join it for some chats! I can aggregate quite a few things based on data in the database, but I have no idea what is actually interesting or fun to know for the masses.
Somewhere this week, maybe next weekend, the Discord bot will be updated some new features btw, so stay tuned. In any case, look forward to another one of these posts next month!
Flight Rising is having their 7th birthday and with it some changes came to the site with the biggest change their dragon profile pages. So far, I only found one thing that broke which is the apparel preview. This should be fixed and already online a few hours ago.
If you notice anything else throwing errors, or just plain not looking right, be sure to let me know. Or join the FRTools Discord server using this link here!
Keep in mind Flight Rising is having some serious server performance issues with their updates, this could result in preview failing to fetch the images from their server.
