“Pretty sure the cat would say no. In fact, the cat would argue that makes you the opposite of valid. But I have a very important question for one. One which will determine the entire future of my view of your validity, so you should definitely take the time to consider your answer carefully before giving it."
He leans in close, the intensity in his expression lending itself to the drama of his warning. "Did you succeed in petting the cat?"
Question delivered, he pulls back, waiting with crossed arms for the response he has promised to judge stringently.
Jake mirrors Dirk, leaning in close, as though the question will be whispered to him. That seems to the logical thing to assume. His face reads confusion though, as if he was taking them all a bit too seriously. And maybe he is.
When the question comes, his eyes move up in thought, trying to remember what exactly happened. “Well,” he begins before pausing, as if he thinks that might be the wrong answer. The answer is no, but he needs that sweet, sweet stamp of approval, so he tries to finagle his way out. “Okay.” A pointer finger comes up. “Listen.”
“I chased the gal for the two blocks and once I found her, I effectively did a Devon Loch. She was a feisty little thing, and while I did get my hand on her and down her coat, I didn’t get far before she swung at me.” His arm extends up, showing three deep scratches along his left forearm. “It was a dead hit.”
“Then she booked it off to wherever the hell and I couldn’t find her. So… I suppose I didn’t, really.” His lips tug into a frown, knowing what this means for his validation. “But I got close! That’s gotta count for something, yes?”
