SPACES, emotional geographies... in dealing with the relationship between emotions and physical spaces, the individual experiences are usually on different perpetual levels, like sensory space of embodied experiences where the individual reaction/response is influenced by visual, auditory, taste and smell stimuli. "Spaces" was the umbrella theme for the FRAMEWALK Cross-cultural workshop in Accra last week. Participants from Ghana, Nigeria and Germany explored the theme through music, dance and theatre. Selected spaces like the 37 bus station, Marina Mall, and Estate, a slum settlement near the police baracks were researched by the participants and instructors, and used as a foundation for creating performances based on the theme. After the five days workshop, the works created were exhibited to the public at the Alliance Francaise Amphitheater. SPACES, emotional geographies... how conscious are we of our response to new spaces? Individual actions and reactions at new spaces could either be conscious or unconscious. The consciousness of our response to new spaces are usually borne out of our will to observe before reacting. However, in certain spaces visual, auditory, taste and smell stimuli might be so strong our response come out involuntarily (might be unconscious). This shows us how spaces affect our emotions whether we are conscious of it or not. .
