One of the things I like to do is suede the neck hole for my doll heads. I like the cushion sueding provides, some protection, and the slight grip it gives. Riverβs head is especially mobile on the neck of the Impldoll body she has, thatβs how she is able to literally look straight up or down, but that means her head snaps around a bit and that is where sueding comes in.
I do not buy real suede but thatβs all personal preference. Iβve heard genuine suede has more tooth than Dr. Schollβs moleskin suede if that is the route you want to go.
Francis is our gracious volunteer this afternoon. I cut the strip of moleskin to match the space around the s-hook hole. I then snip every few millimeters to the edge but not through the strip, just as if you were clipping a curved seam.
All there is to do is peel off the backing and start placing it around the neck hole. Make sure your cut side is facing outwards from the hole, that way when you make a curve you just spread the tabs out and go with it.
Moleskin is a little forgiving, so if you need to push a tab or two around you can do so before smoothing it down.
This concept also applies to joints. I like to suede the neck hole, shoulders, chest, torso, hips, feet and hands. If you have wiggle room in the knees/elbows/thigh joint you may be able to add suede for stability but most of my dollβs said joints are already snug and will not allow any.
