I think Frankie and Andi are both aromantic but in distinctly different ways.
For one thing, I think Andi wouldn’t struggle at all with it. She doesn’t need to “come to terms” with her aromanticism. She was one of those kids who was like “romance is gross and icky >:/ ” and adults were like “you’ll change your mind when you’re older” and she went “bet.” And didn’t.
However, what I think she might ACTUALLY struggle with is the combination of being aromantic and allosexual, specifically because of the idea that wanting to be with someone “just for sex” is seen as heartless or slutty or whatever dumb stereotype we want to put there. There’s a million to choose from. I think she’d feel really guilty about wanting to have sex without any kind of romance for a while. Eventually she does come to terms with that and is able to put those out of her mind, even if it’s still a Thing She Has To Deal With From Society.
FRANKIE however WOULD struggle to come to terms with being aromantic. I think Frankie LOVES the idea of fairytale romance and devotion, and might even have crushes, but in the way where she’d never actually want to be with them. The idea is fun, but not something she actually wants. And Frankie is absolutely one for big gestures and devotion, and I think it’s difficult for her to reconcile that with her lack of romantic attraction because the expectation is that you would do those things for a romantic partner.
Ultimately, Frankie has the biggest heart ever and does come around to the fact that it doesn’t have to be reserved for romance.
And I think Frankie and Andi sort of stumble in being a qpr naturally. It’s not something they would describe themselves as, they would just think of each other as friends, but they’ve got a “there’s something different about our relationship but we have jobs so we can’t really worry about that rn” thing happening.
Anyways this all circles back to my post about how they should get platonically married for the tax benefits. And then whenever Andi hooks up with someone Frankie jokingly gets devastated that her wife is cheating on her. And they celebrate their anniversary in an ironic-but-also-I-care-about-you-deeply sorta way.
