Viola parts are really rare, compared to Strad. standard, school-quality violin parts.
Viola parts, particularly 5-string violas, extended downward a fifth, are even more rare.
Mark Wood's Viper is a really popular design. A lot of people are playing them.
Hardware is a good investment.
Fiddles are pretty modular.
It's the hide glue.
It's fairly reasonable to swap-out a fingerboard or a neck, or a body and just transfer over the custom hardware.

OK. Viola practice progress: Pizzicato callus on my index fingertip, check! Better fingering muscle memory? (Maybe?) But my intonation has been drifting bizarrely. Enter Suzuki Method tapes on the fingerboard! I think it really does help the student succeed! I totally endorse it.

It's pretty rough. This will take a lot of 30-day Maya evaluations to get anything usable. (If I can export STL from Maya evaluation license) And that's just for the first run on a CNC machine milling curly Maple. (And I still don't have a workflow to go from an STL file to G-code cutter paths. It is almost target machine-specific, I think.) Getting it right in wood will probably take a few more iterations after that.
