Frankenweiner
A few years ago, my pit pull picked up my dachshund and flung him around like a chew toy. When he was walking away, I noticed blood dripping all over the floor. He didn't act like he was injured, he seemed rather dazed though. I looked him over, he had a 3 inch ragged gash in his neck, with the skin hanging off of it. His ear was nearly completely severed. My daughter in law was there, so I asked her to hold him while I tried to put him back together.
After about 20 minutes of gluing, the bleeding stopped. He fully recovered. He now has a tiny split on the distal portion of his ear 1/4 inch long that did not fully reattach. The whole situation It is still pretty unbelievable to me and my daughter in law.
We started calling him Frankenweiner and joked about how he was a zombie dog or a dog vampire that would outlive us all.
In my pit bull's defense, she had given him a couple of gutteral warning growls prior to attacking. He kept trying to hump her head, and she was not happy about it.
In my defense, I had no money to go to the Dr. myself, so I couldn't take him to the vet either. This was also a weekend and after hours as I recall.
I suppose if there were a moral to this story it would be something like:
Don't hump a pitbull's head when she is growling and outweighs you by 60lbs?
Or maybe don't have dogs if you have no money? (I had money when I first got the dogs)
Always keep super glue on hand?
Okay, maybe this isn't my best literary achievement, nor am I trained in the veterinary arts, but it is still a very memorable story.
