17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

There are a lot of historical details about the Order’s rise to power that don’t get delved into much, and a few things about how magic used to work pre-ascension that probably won’t make it into the text, just because there aren’t any parts of the story that take place back then.

One favorite is how magic users handled larger spells before bracers became widespread. Bracers serve as a kind of interface with the ley lines, and they’re used to regulate the amount of magic going in and out of the person doing the casting.

Before bracers, magicians would need to undergo a process called Grounding if they cast any particularly magic-heavy spells, which involved allowing excess magic to flow out of them and be safely dispersed in the ground, plants, other living things, etc. 

So like, imagine during battles, for example, there might be several people just face-planted, spread eagle on the ground because they Did A Big Magic And Need to Lie Down
