When he was still a wee mortal, Baptiste wanted to prove that vampires for his dissertation. After years of research, he found out about the old abbey and following rumors decided to explore the depths of the catacombs beneath, where he indeed found a (sleeping) vampire. He accidentally woke him up and was almost killed in the progress. Aurel gave him the option to end it, or turn him into a vampire and be his servant. (since he’s still there, Baptiste obviously opted for the latter. Needless to say, he never wrote that dissertation.)
