judith  had  practically  bitten  her  nails  to  a  nub,  a  nervous  tick  that  only  eddie  seemed  to  aggravate.  she  had  been  fine.  the  first  week  after  they  broke  up  was  sort  of  difficult,  but  she  stayed  strong  and  pretended  everything  was  alright,  until  it  dawned  on  her  that  she  had  made  a  terrible  mistake.  she  loved  eddie  and  even  though  they  fought  more  than  they  loved,  he  was  still  her  guy.  a  few  days  after  her  realization,  she  decided  to  work  up  the  courage  to  talk  to  him  after  weeks  of  avoiding  him  in  the  halls  and  at  the  trailer  park.

that  is  when  she  saw  him  talking  to  ashley  by  the  lockers,  flashing  that  goofy  smile  of  his  at  her.  her  heart  felt  heavy  in  her  chest  and  she  felt  almost  out  of  breath.  there  was  no  way  she  was  going  to  say  anything  to  him  now.

a  few  of  her  fingers  are  now  bleeding,  her  tick  getting  worse  as  the  scene  played  over  and  over  in  her  head  as  she  laid  in  her  bed  smoking  a  cigarette.  were  they  going  out?  had  eddie  really  moved  on  from  her  that  quickly?  there  was  only  one  way  to  find  out.

she  stormed  out  of  the  trailer  and  made  her  way  across  the  street,  not  caring  whether  the  light  at  eddie's  trailer  was  off  or  on.  they  were  going  to  talk  either  way.

hands  were  on  her  hips  as  she  stared  at  eddie,  shaking  her  head.  "  you're  really  going  to  make  me  say  it  ?  "  she  asked  in  disbelief.

she  rubbed  her  eyes,  cursing  the  fact  that  eddie  lived  a  few  feet  from  her  parent's  trailer.  a  yawn  as  she  looked  down  at  the  shirt,  pulling  on  it  and  looking  at  it  with  one  eye  closed.  "  is  it  ?  "  judith  shrugged,  stepping  further  into  the  living  room  so  that  the  screen  door  closed.  "  what  are  you  doing  here  so  early  ?  "  she  asked,  walking  into  the  kitchen  to  make  herself  a  bowl  of  cereal,  not  bothering  to  offer  eddie  anything.  "  i  thought  the  new  girlfriend  didn't  want  you  near  me  or  something.  "  a  giggle  as  she  obnoxiously  poured  a  heavy  amount  of  cereal  into  her  bowl,  temporarily  drowning  out  any  words  spoken.

the way i am SUCH a flowers fan should be studied. all of their muses have their own unique voice and style, like you can tell who they're writing from the way a thread reads, the vocabulary, the way they speak and what they notice/point out/focus on in a scene. also love it when they yap in a thread cause you just know they've got some good shit to say

there's such a rhythmic flow to aphelion's threads. like they're so good at the composition in writing, word choice and sentence length, structure, etc. coming together to make something that's almost musical. her formatting really helps to push it that little extra bit too

soapy is an absolute legend in my head. she has such an amazing grasp on eddie and her writing is incredible. it truly pulls my into the world that she's describing, sits me right down in the middle of the scene and holds my head to make sure i don't miss a thing

it wasn’t that she had a distaste for living in the trailer park   —   quite frankly , max could care less where their house was located.      rather it was the odd quiet that loomed over the trailer her mother could just barely scrape up enough of her income to afford.      never , not once , did max ever think a time would come when no longer hearing billy’s music blasting from his bedroom would ache as it did now.      as if a constant , personal reminder to the red head teenager that all that happened those few weeks before were not a nightmare.      her mother tried , max gave her that.      tried to turn their newfound situation into something better , but max could see the disconnect in her eyes.      the empty cans she thought she’d hidden in the trash , the dishes on the coffee table after another late night shift.      perhaps that was why she forced smiles around the home , did her best to be okay.

this morning being no different as the dark circles that highlighted under her mother’s eyes seemed deeper as she looked at her daughter   —   a trying voice telling her to have a good day back at school.      giving the best closed lipped smile she could , max grabbed hold of her skateboard , backpack tossed over her shoulder , and left the home.      not that her skateboard would do her much good the first half of the trek to the high school given the gravel roads and sidewalkless streets.      but it was better than riding with steve and the others.      less questions.      

eyes glance over to the parallel trailer where an oversized van hummed to life.      a mop of dark , curly hair ever clearly seen through the window.      max had yet to know who lived around her   —   and honestly she had little drive to.      but it did not stop her from watching as she put further distance between her home and the street beyond.

It's not just him --- Ren's practically got goosebumps, being here again. It's just... old memories, y'know? So maybe she's kinda snooping, touching things she really shouldn't, being nosy and whatever. The last time she was here things were so different. She just wants to pretend for a bit. Is that really such a bad thing?

It hurts a little, going through Eddie's stuff. Even just being in his room again, if she's honest. It isn't boredom that spurs her on but nostalgia, and longing, and like... something else. Something she's a little bit scared to name (she can feel his stare on her like a brush of fingers down her spine).

Cause like... god, they coulda really BEEN SOMETHING, huh? But she just... nothing worked out the way it should have (story of her god damned life). And now none of it even fucking matters --- he ended up getting caught in all the supernatural crap anyway. It almost pisses her off, because maybe if she'd just told him, let him get swept up in it back then instead of now, maybe...

❝ Yeah, it was. ❞ Her voice is quiet, soft in a way she so rarely is. Even now, with all the Golding Girl bullshit stripped away, she still always has that wall up. Ever since Eddie, if she thinks about it --- she doesn't like to think about it, is the thing.

She remembers it; that day. When they were happy. It seems like a different lifetime, now. It wasn't even that long ago, and there was so much shit going on that he never even knew about, but when she was with him it was like none of the rest of it mattered. Her dad didn't matter, and Matt didn't matter (ouch), and all the terrifying out of this world monsters didn't matter. She can practically feel the sun on her skin as she stares down at the photo.

A little splash from a tear brings her back to the now. Not by the lake on a warm summer's day but in the quiet, somber little trailer tucked far in Forest Hills. There are putrid spores lingering in the air outside. She swears under her breath, gently wiping the teardrop from the photo, hopes it doesn't damage. There's something thick that sits heavy in her throat.

The very top of the unfinished condominium looms over the tree line lining the mall's empty parking lot. The wind is stronger here, at the edge of a broken place, throwing their hair every this way and that. She holds onto a piece of the structure, the skeleton of Whitefield Heights, to keep her balance. The view is immense... and different than what he may remember. The tree line is just that, a line, and then a long, endless field of greenery spreads into the horizon, where a red structure is erected: a playground, lonely, abandoned, cast upon a dark sky. Eddie has yet to realize, she believes, that he'll not be heading home anytime soon. She's not giving him up that easily.
