Taking a deep breath to vanish the sick feeling she had had since the boat ride, she was glad to finally feel solid ground beneath her feet. The fresh cold breeze of the north city whose name she could barely pronounce properly brushed on her pale face and laced into her wavy brown hair which was now more or less a big mess. Closing her eyes tight and filling her lungs once again with the cold air, she was struggling to hold back herself from throwing up immediately. After getting her stuff settled and a glass of water to get rid of this huge urge of vomiting, she felt much better. Only a good hour after their arrival at the capital of the subprefecture, the small girl noticed the beautiful sight in white snow which resembled those fairy tales. The untouched snow reminded her of a big fluffy blanket or white candy cotton, which caused a toothy grin cross pale face, which was slowly getting its color back.
The beautiful view of the brand new world (for her) was seducing her, calling her and asking her to discover it, to get lost in the busy crowded streets, to taste the for her unknown snacks on the subway. She needed to go out at right now. The will became so strong as if it was her destination walking on the snow covered street of Asahikawa. Sprinting through the other members of the circus, who were too busy with settling down their own stuff, she got into her tent with the deep red color of wine and threw a thick scarf around her neck after putting on a warm jacket and slipping her feet into the warm boots. She was in rush, she couldn’t forgive herself for wasting any second.
But before she could leave the camp there were two things she had to find first: a person to go with her and a dictionary or a guide, because the only Japanese word she knew was “fugu” which meant puffer fish. Despite being a part of the circus for a few months already, the Taiwanese was too busy to catch up with the life in this whole new world, which was why she barely knew someone from the circus. She hadn’t even made her special performance yet, the girl was still working on it to make the best out of it. Most of the time she either wandered around and showed the kids some small tricks by reviving a dead flower or making a little tree dance around or watching the performances in the main tent. But now she had no time to think of it, the only thing she could think of going out and explore the new city.
Almost tripping over her own feet as she caught the sight of one person, she quickly hid behind a tent and fixed her big brown orbs on a male passing by. The small girl might seem suspicious at this moment but she couldn’t help, because of an event happening between them good two weeks ago. Her big teeth dug into the plump lip of hers while she was wandering if she could ask him to go with her. A discussion rapidly went through her mind “Pro: He can speak Japanese and we can still go separate ways once we are out of here. Contra: what if he still remembers my face after getting yelled at because of stepping on a flower?” But in a bat of an eye she found herself standing in front of the male and could feel a big, sheepish smile tugging at her own lips as the few words rolled off them: “Hi, would you mind going downtown with me?”. As the last word was spoken, she mentally cursed at herself for doing this but she couldn’t help, Asahakiwaiya or what the city was called was waiting for her.
