Hi everyone!
Fear can be the most common feeling when we are starting something new, since learning a new skill ´till creating something for any kind of creative outcome, and even though fear is a useful feeling in other situations can’t be the main cause of procrastination when we have to be productive or we’re trying to improve.
What I’ve learned in my process is that
The first step to overcoming fear is to identify where the fear comes from. It can come from being exposed to criticism and comparations to other people that we admire or are important to us, fear of disappointing someone, maybe our teachers or our parents. Or more simply just fear of failure, that fear that comes with the idea of “I’ll screw it up” and don’t let us even try.
The second step is to observe our thoughts, most of our fear is learned from old experiences, old conversations that mold our mindset to this feeling, so what are you thinking when you’re afraid of start painting, journaling, speaking in public or start learning a new language? What is the scenario in your mind of what will go to happen if you try to do it?
The third step, question your thoughts: Is this realistic ?, there are proves that this (that I’m thinking) is real? It has happened in the past? How probably is this to happen? After this, you’ll realize that the possible outcomes aren’t even that bad, and you’ll feel less anxious about the idea of you starting the thing.
The Fourth step is to give yourself a try, try to start doing the minimum of the thing, like practice 10 minutes in a language app, doodle a flower, write two sentences whatever that takes you just a step closer to what you want to accomplish. This way you won't have to put high expectations on the thing, you know that is just a try and it doesn't have to be perfect.
And last but not least Be patient with yourself, is important to remember that it's okay to fail, to screw it, to do it all wrong because you're just starting! And only those who fail the most are the one that learn the most. Do the things from you to you, know what you're capable of and go forward slowly, success is not a race to the end. 💖
Tell me if you have other ways of overcome fears! Also what fear have you defeated in the past?
Remember that life is Awesome! And I am Danii 😄💕
