And Requested Something From The Clan Techie
With control of the entire Peach Trees block, there was nowhere for Ma-Ma’s reach to go but outward. Outward into other blocks, other sectors - tendrils reaching deep into the guts of the city right under the Judge’s noses. And, as Techie knew well, Ma-Ma didn’t reach gently; she took things, her actions exacting and severe, always. There were new business deals, skirmishes, raids: all things that the Technician had to keep eyes and ears on to the best of his ability, despite not being able to leave his room. And with raids, they sometimes found other things besides new territory and opportunities for casual violence. According to Madeline, a constant voice in his ears even in her absence, they had found someone on a raid today that might make for a useful assistant for him in the security room.
Of course, the Technician read ‘assistant’ as replacement - the sort of scenario he’d always feared in the back of his mind where, once he’d taught the other everything he needed to know, he would be scrapped in favour of the newer model. Not that he was especially surprised; he’d been here long enough to know that people and machines were both replaceable. Regardless of thoughts and fears, he accepted the news as fact and answered with quiet acceptance. Maybe it would be sort of nice, having someone else to talk to in here - Techie seldom got to leave the control room, and the only people he spoke to mostly just barked orders and threats. Not that this person would want anything to do with him, not if they were picked up on a raid. Even if he wasn’t aggressive or violent, he still had the same tattoos and brands as the rest of the cartel.
And sure enough, the appearance of three signatures on the Block’s interface - ‘Ma’s, Caleb’s, and an unfamiliar one - slowly making their way up the Block to the security room near the top pulled him from his thoughts. He was watching the door by the time they made it up there, bionic eyes faintly illuminated as they worked to capture information.
