Scorpius is very critical of himself. Those before him needed to be perfect to uphold the Malfoy name, a pressure places on them heavily by their own parents. Scorpius, however, is only expected to do his best by his parents (Which is still a high expectation, as they believe his best is still top notch.) However, the greatest pressure is self-imposed. Scorpius wants to do the best, be the best. So when he fails, or even just makes a mistake, he doesn’t take it lightly. He berates himself (though it’s a private thing. He would never let others see this.) because he wants, needs to be the best.
