Finding Ghosts || Kate and Ji Yeon
It had taken a while before her research gave her a name of someone who wasn't deceased. Ms. Kate Austen, she'd been a fugitive on Oceanic 815 when it crashed, bringing Ji Yeon's parents with it. Three months later she'd reappeared alongside her mother, Sun, as part of the Oceanic Six. And then, three years later, after Ji Yeon herself had been born, Kate had joined her mother on Aijira 316.
That time, only Ms. Austen returned.
Now, so many years later, Ji Yeon had tracked the woman down. If anyone could tell her about what had happened to her parents, it would be Ms. Austen.
Her knock was loud and crisp. "Kate Austen? Are you home? My name is Ji Yeon Kwon. May I speak with you?"

A Life, Anew || Kate & Richard
[ freckles-the-fugitive ]
Richard had been on and off the Island several times. He had seen the technologies and advances the world had to offer, that were far more superior than in his life before, but the base of the matter was that Richard never stayed off the Island for very long - in his trips. There were errands to run, people to see, or even try to convince to return to the Island with him. It was never for leisure or a vacation of sorts. He simply learned what he needed, and studied what interested him on his own time. Privately. There were very few that were privileged to the knowledge that Richard was much, much older than he appeared. That he knew just how to get off the Island and find it again - that didn't involve a submarine or air travel.
Of course now, this was a one way trip. They had escaped the Island - and Richard was leaving behind the home he had known for over a century. Surreal, in that affirmation, as it slowly sank in. Each of the other people on board the plane had a life they could return to - or better from. They had families and friends. Richard was alone. There was once a time that he posed as a representative for Mittelos Bioscience - but even that wouldn't have been enough to be established within the world outside of the Island. Funds, housing, food - even an identity would all be something that he would have to reestablish for himself. A very jarring realization as they had landed.
With the kindness of Miles and Frank, Richard had enough for a few nights at a hotel at first, while everyone figured out where to go, and what to do with their lives from then on out. Away from the Island, it all seemed so different for him - and understanding now that there was a limited time for him, Richard wasn't altogether certain what to do. He had been leaning against the railing that overlooked the second landing of the hotel. The view wasn't spectacular - the parking lot, overcast with the mass jungle of buildings and city. Brown eyes searched the skyline of it, a coffee mug cradled between his hands, as if something in his actions would give him the answers that he was searching for.
Project From Hell | Kate and Shannon (High School AU)
Science was one of the classes she fully and truly loathed, she had to admit. She just couldn't understand it. The scientific names were the worst part of it all and while she got that humans were homo-sapiens and that each animal belonged to a level of a chart that included more words that she was certain people just made up to laugh at the misery of high schoolers, she now had to make up a poster including all names and present them to the class. Why couldn't she had gotten something easier? Of course, that's what happens when your name is pretty much the last one on the list.
The only silver lining was the fact that there were partners. Luckily she wouldn't be stuck with this project from hell alone.
Walking up to her partner, she glared slightly and put a hand on her hip. "You're Kate, right? How about we go ahead and get this whole thing over with. I'll meet you at your house after school, okay?"

((I almost said Kate, but I just feel like they would be more contemporaries, you know? THAT'S WHY ALL THE SISTER AUS ARE PERFECT))
forty four days | kate meets desmond
// freckles-the-fugitive
Forty four days.
It'd been forty four days since Desmond had last been outside of the bunker. Forty four days since Kelvin had left. Forty four days since he'd seen the timer flip to hieroglyphics.
And now there was a woman in the bunker. There'd been an earth-shaking explosion from the surface and next second he'd watched her, whoever she was, repel from that damned quarantine hatch. Repel and... fall. She'd fallen when he'd turned on the light. Fallen, hit her head, and after being dragged from the bottom of the hatch into the geodesic dome, she had Desmond standing over her, gripping a rifle with sweaty palms, and wondering what he'd do when she woke up.
