Graham Parker | Protection | Squeezing Out Sparks (1979)
I saw Graham Parker play tonight at Brit’s, an outdoor pub in Minneapolis. Apparently Parker is an old friend of 90-year-old Freddie Manton who has been at the pub since it opened. He has been coming over for a few years now to play for Manton’s birthday—which Brit’s called Fredstock.
Parker did a solo acoustic set for about an hour and a half, including this song. After that local band The Belfast Cowboys played a set. Graham Parker came out and played three songs with them—an older Parker tune, a new tune off Parker’s soon-to-be-released album, and they also did sort of a Van Morrison arrangement of It’s Not Easy Being Green.
A had a couple of Pimm’s Cups and amazing company—a fantastic night.
