A Game I Never Thought I Would Come to Love

I love Solitaire now. I’m pretty much playing it everyday while listening to music. I never knew that it would be so enjoyable once you start getting the hang of it. Solitaire is like a classic computer game along with Minesweeper, Purble Place, etc. Currently, I’m playing the Microsoft Solitaire Collection which has daily challenges, events and what not.

When I think about why I didn’t like Solitaire for the longest time, it was probably because the only Solitaire games I tried to play was Free Cell and Spider. According to what I recall, these two were the only ones which were pre-downloaded into the computer. Let me tell you, Free Cell is hard, okay? It’s hard. I used to get frustrated by it since I wasn’t able to properly solve it. Even now, I find it very hard to solve it; sometimes I get stuck in the easy mode of it too. As for Spider, well, since I was new to Solitaire, it visually confused me. I was a bit confused about what I was supposed to do and I don’t really read the How to Play unless I wanted to and by that time I was already frustrated because of Free Cell.

Yeah... That happened. However, I really love this game now. Microsoft Solitaire Collection has Klondike, Spider, Free Cell, Pyramid and TriPeaks. Klondike is my favourite because it’s simple and easy and can also be challenging in the harder modes. Spider is interesting; Free Cell is still hard, but when I’m able to complete it, I feel very proud and relieved. Pyramid and TriPeaks are easy most of the time.

Anyways, I don’t imagine myself not playing it anytime soon.

It's time for a random question to give you a break from all the serious syscourse questions and stuff... Do you prefer to play "Solitaire" or "Spider Solitaire"?

Between the two options, I think Spider Sol is the best! 😁

Ghost: Agreeing with Soph's opinion, but adding that the objectively best solitaire game is FreeCell. Easily. No contest.

Lina Tullgren: Free Cell

Titled after a game of computer solitaire, the Queens musician’s second album uses avant-pop songwriting to capture the nuances of tedium, to strangely captivating effect.

Queens, NY -- Lina Tullgren will be releasing their sophomore album Free Cell on August 23 via Captured Tracks. Take a listen to the first track from the album titled “Golden Babyland,”which is just under 4 minutes long. The first time I listened to Lina Tullgren was back in 2016 when they first signed to Captured Tracks with the EP Wishlist so hearing this song really blew me away. “Golden Babyland” isn’t overly complex but the off-kilter twang in the guitars to the bass create this simmering drive that I can’t get enough of. There’s certainly a cacophonous nature to this song but it works with Tullgren’s almost-stoic vocals.
