Quick notes on Naya before I head to work!:
NaNoWriMo 2012!
Hey everyone, it's time to talk about the novel I'm going to be writing this month! This will be my seventh year participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month http://www.nanowrimo.org ), and so far I've managed to reach the 50,000 word goal every time. My sister *Ridel and other members of my family (though I'm not exactly sure which yet) will be participating again this year, too. So here's what I'm writing this time around: Beauregard Gone! (Cat Show Up for Grabs) It's not about a cat show, or anyone named Beauregard. It's actually a sci-fi story about a small crew of "Free Traders" who get hired for odd jobs across the galaxy. Captain Phoebe Kaits is a freakishly tall, hippy-esque lady who was actually born in space, in the Free Traders' pontoon city. Beauregard Gone! (Cat Show Up for Grabs) is the name of her ship. Or rather, it was the news headline that had been painted over the name of her ship that time they'd been unwise enough to leave it unattended for twenty minutes on the planet Journalensk, where freedom of the press is ludicrously incontestable. Since paint is at a premium these days, and paint remover at a double-premium, they've just learned to live with it. Her crew includes her husband Bazil (ship's mechanic), Nestor (worry-wort and self-proclaimed Universe's Worst Navigator), "Cookiebones" (the Cook/Doctor), and Wexford (a posh young man who's taking a gap year as a cabin boy and getting a little more than he bargained for). Their adventures will include such things as interplanetary espionage, mysterious cargo, a Words' Fair, a lost planet, corporate warfare, broken robots in need of sanctuary, space bugs, strangler vines, a crash or two, chases, escapes, true love, and jute!
