Half a dozen to a dozen languages could be heard yelling and talking across the blacktop of my elementary school yard. I grew up in a diverse town populated with immigrants, their first generation American born children, and two military bases. I grew up around people who were from all over this planet. As a freckle face freak of nature, I was the minority, I was la gringa, I was the white girl. Having been told to my face many times that I am bad or evil or lucky just because of my skin color has numbed me to racism, because you see, I am not just white, but that is what you see. Stop emphasizing white versus black, brown, etcetera. No one chose their skin color. And skin color isn't everything. Why do people have to choose if they are black or white when in fact they are both? Isn't that racism? I am not allowed to acknowledge the Native American in me. Granted they were many generations back on both my maternal and paternal side, but they existed and they mattered too. #blacklivesmatter #alllivesmatter #freecollegetuition #freehealthcare #nomorehate #peace (at United States of America) https://www.instagram.com/p/CA77RBMgUqj/?igshid=vjux5l3egw2d
