The WEIRDEST enjoyment I’ve ever had! Have you ever been to a beach full of clay? If no, then I highly suggest that you drop what you’re doing, chuck on some old clothes, and go find one NOW! Full disclosure: I must admit that the other adults around us thought we were barking mad, but we didn’t care. The sensation of clay squelching between your toes is one that takes a while to get used to, I cannot lie. I found myself shouting ‘this is so gross!’ While continuing to walk in deeper. The children on the other hand were rubbing it on their bodies like some kind of feral tribe! As weird as it sounds, it was so fun! We spent hours messing around in the clay, looking at the bird footprints in the clay, finding particularly deep bits, and laughing at each other... all whilst trying not to fall over. What topped it off for me was when we were about to leave, and the children ran off ahead towards the car. Some passers by looked at us in horror, and asked ‘are they your kids?’. I confirmed that indeed they were, and was met by their horrified reply ‘we worried what their parents were going to say, but now we know you’re just as bad!’. I chuckled my way back to the car 🤣 Note for the brave among you who want to try this: bring towels. We didn’t. And the car paid a high price. But, it all cleaned up. We all washed ourselves and the mud was forgotten. But what won’t be forgotten is the experience! And did I mention, it was FREE?! Oh, and our feet were insanely soft after too! FRUGAL FUN AT THE BEACH Now on a sunny day, the beach may seem like an obvious choice. It is a natural environment for frugal fun: picnics, sandcastles and splashing around in the water. Many people are less keen when the weather isn’t quite as nice, but don’t right it off just yet. There are plenty of non weather dependent activities to keep your family having fun for free! For a start, children are inherently interested in finding interesting stones and shells, and this can turn into quite an adventure if you let it. You could make it a competition, such as finding the smoothest stone, or the most interesting shell. Fossil hunting is another fantastic family activity for those who are interested in dinosaurs and history. Some areas are better than others for this of course, but the fun is in the trying! Totally free fun, with an educational element to it - my personal favourite! Going for a simple walk is another of our frugal favourites. You can simply walk and take in the scenery, or you can make it a nature spotting adventure. Whatever inspires your family! We also enjoy taking nets to the beach, and seeing what we can catch. On a cold day, there are much less people around, and it feels very peaceful and serene. Of course, you can still do the sunny day activities on a cold day, such as building sandcastles and swimming, by simply adjusting your clothing... and your mindset! Took a trip to the local library for a free day out. They had an activity afternoon which Ella loved. Making beautiful rainbow fish craft. Myles enjoyed the reading side which I was pretty shocked about! He joined the reading challenge and got his first stickers for his book review.
